We did get moved, but things are still hectic and it's kind of hard keeping up with all this. If I haven't told you already, the May 31st date is fine with me, barring any unforeseen problems. I think the potluck dinner would be fine too. If people cannot bring something already prepared, perhaps they could bring the ingredients and put it together there. I could do that, or bring a dish already prepared either. I'll be coming from Houston, but I have a stop in Oil City (which is just north of Shreveport), not too far away from Farmersville. An afternoon speaker would be great. I just returned from a rewarding trip to North Carolina. I've been travelling to Charlotte nearly every other week for several months for business. This past week, I decided to take a few days vacation in conjunction with the trip and go "hunting" in my ancestral lands of Moore and Lee County, NC. I was able to locate the graves of my gr-gr-gr-grandparents, Alexander and Catherine McIntosh, and prove the name of my gr-gr-grandfather, Roderick McIntosh--the father of Joseph Roderick McIntosh. Joseph Roderick was the father of my gr-grandfather, John McIntosh, who inturn was the father of my grandmother, Susie McIntosh (a sister of Clifton McIntosh, former Bernice mayor). Alexander and Catherine were both natives of Scotland, which excited me even more, because now (other than my Feazel ancestors) I have a known overseas connection. Now for some updated suggestions: Reunion Steering Committee: We need a few volunteers who are willing to make decisions for the group as a whole. I suggest five or six. These can stay in contact with each other and take necessary actions on short notice without having to wait on responses from the entire list. I'll volunteer for one of the slots--any other takers? Sorry, no cash, but you will feel really good when it is over. Send your name, email address, snail mail address and phone number with best times to call. Date--I am assuming that May 31st is an "approved" date. I've only seen a couple of responses. If so, who can volunteer to call the Shiloh pastor to arrange the use of the fellowship hall? Let me know if I need to do this. Registration fee--How does $5 per family sound. This will cover the cost of mailing, paper goods, names tags, etc. If we do end up with any left over, we can donate it. Keeper of the cash--I nominate Sue Linder since she is putting together the registration form. Haven't asked Sue if she wants the job--does any one else want it? Copiers--We should have at least 2 on hand. These would be of the desktop variety. Perhaps one of the local attorneys/CPAs/insurance agents have one they would lend us for the day. That was what was done at the Bibb County swap meet. We supply the paper and replacement toner. Costs are recovered by charging 10 cents per copy. Any extra gets donated. Maybe I'll finally breakdown and buy one for my own use. As much as I spend at Kinkos I could afford it. Meal--potluck sounds good. Shiloh has a pretty good kitchen with stove and microwave (for warming) and sink for cleaning up. Children/spouse activities--If they don't do genealogy, what's the use of bringing them along?? Just kidding!!!! There could horseshoes (I have a set with stakes). They could possibly go fishing at the Darbonne State Park--check on fishing license requirements. The Depot museum in Bernice may be open. Perhaps as a break in the early afternoon, we could have one speaker to give a short talk. Anyone up to it or know of a local historian that would do it? Shouldn't be for more than 30 minutes. The final decisions need to be made rather quickly in order the get the publicity out. Maradee has volunteered to design a flyer and she will need to know what to include. I've forgotten who the list owner is. Can someone send me his/her email address so that I can correspond offline?
