Addie Mae, I was hoping that the time frame would be between 1900-1940 or so, because I might have an explanation. My Grandparents were married in 1933 in Bernice, in a gas station. The reason why is because that was where the J.P. hung out. If you wanted him you had to go find him! The J.P. was named FUTCH. It seems that Mr.. Futch was quite a character and maybe liked the 'shine' abit. Well, anyway it seems that he was also forgetful about returning marriage license to be recorded. I was able to get the details from my grandmother's bible and a witness, so I know they were married, when they were married and by whom. I even know the witnesses, but I have never found a record. It seems that after Mr.. Futch died, while cleaning out his belonging, his son (who is now a lawyer in Houston) came across some old records. The thing is I'm not sure what was done with them, if they were ever turned over and recorded, or if they just figured that it had been so long there was no point. Anyway I was wondering if maybe your records were in there with mine!!! I will however keep an eye out and try to help you. Gina
