The prior posts pretty much describe Alabama Landing and how it got its name. Your other question on Cherry Ridge--it is located northwest of Farmerville. Nothing remains of the earlier settlement. I believe that there is a Methodist church and cemetery still there (or least I have been told) I plan to look for it on the next trip to Farmerville.
