One family that I am researching for Union & Lincoln Parishes is my Powell family: My ggg grandparents were William Jasper Powell and Mary Elizabeth Britton. They lived near Downsville and had 9 children and moved here from Heard County GA about 1871 (two daughters were married in Heard Co before moving to Louisiana). I am currently trying to find out what became of all of his children. I do know where the 4 of the children are buried and I have some information (not much) on 2 others. Mary died near Downsville in the early 1870's and William married Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Edwards in Lincoln Parish in 1879 and Mrs. Mary Alline Byers in 1890 in Brown Co TX Buena Vista Jane Powell (Aunt Bunie) m. James K Fomby in Heard Co. GA.--I do know that she was still living in 1905, her picture was taken with her father, 2 brothers, & 2 sisters. The picture was taken in Brown Co TX--I do not know if she moved to Texas or if she was on a visit. They had 10 children: Laura, Lump, Leamon, Otis, James, Curtis, Edward, Lizzie, Jefferson, & Oscar. Laura's husband, Lump & his wife, & Lizzie are buried at Shiloh. Otis & his wife are buried in Brown Co, Texas. The rest I do not know Leroy N Powell m. Bertha Roberta Hamilton. They had six children: John Henry, W E, James F, Mattie May, Alex, and Robert Lee. Leroy remarried twice: 1889 & 1890 in Williamson Co TX and had 5 more children by his 3rd wife. May was only 7 or 8 when her father remarried and was raised by her mother's brother in Union Parish. Robert Lee was probably younger and he, too, took a wife (Ethel Coplen) from Union Parish. Leroy later moved to Brown Co., and after that, I do not know. Virginia E Powell m. Hiram S Burson in Heard Co. GA. They had 7 children: Ben, Joe, Mary, Pleasent, Cynthia, James F, and May. They moved to Williamson Co TX in the 1880's or 1890's and are buried in the Hutto City Cemetery, along with 4 of their children. Elovena P Powell m. Wash Clark, no children--this info was given to me by great grandfather's half sister. I do know she was born in 1855, I have yet to locate her in the 1880 Census. William Emanuel Powell, b. 1857--I do not know any more info Martha Texana Powell m. Joseph Jackson Edwards (her step-brother???) in 1879 in Lincoln Parish. They moved to Texas between 1880-1882, probably to Brown Co. They are buried at the De Leon City Cemetery in Comanche Co TX. I know that they lived their lives in Brown Co, I do not know if they moved to De Leon later or not. I do know that he was a minister and that may have been a factor. They had 10 children--all born in Texas John Thomas Powell m. Ida May Fuller (Lincoln Parish), Annie Coplen (Union Parish), and Nina Shaw (Union Parish). Ida May died giving birth and the child died also. Annie had 1 surviving child, Reed, and she died when Reed was 6 months old. Nina had 8 children, the first 3 (Mamie, Brooks, & Onnie Lee) were born in Union Parish and the others (Floyd, Esther, Fred, Burl, & JT) were born in either Brown or San Saba Counties. John and Nina are buried in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. John moved his family to Texas in 1897. Joseph Edward Powell m. Samantha Ann ? he was living in Texas by 1891 and all 4 of his children were born in Texas. They are buried at Brady, McCulloch Co., Texas Purla P Powell (b. 1872) m. ? Edison--I do not have any other info. If anyone has any information to help me to fill in the gaps, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Gaylon
