I found a family listed in the 1860 Union Parish census that could be mine. I've been looking for a Nancy Bennett who married a Thompson. Listed under Family 10, Shiloh PO, is Head of Household- Nancy C. Smith, age 42 born TN, also in the household are A. D. Thompson, Female, age 16, b. KY; J. Thompson, male Age 24, b. KY and M. Bennett, female, age 70 yrs, b. NC. Am wondering if my Nancy remarried a Smith after her husband died and if the M. Bennett in the house was her mother. Does anyone know anything about any of of the persons listed? I have a copy of an official looking marriage certificate that says my ggrandmother, Louisa May Thompson, daughter of Nancy Bennett and George Thompson, married Alfred A. James in Union Parish, LA in 1857. I had someone look in Union Parish and they couldn't find any record of this marriage. This is really a puzzle to me. The certificate says they were married by an A. D. Gaskill, Minister of the Gospel, in the home of A. Bennett. There is an A. D. Gaskill also listed two houses away. The census says his occupation says MD. Could the census taker have written MD when it should have been MG. Help! If anyone has an suggestions or can help, it will be most appreciated. Thanks. Sharon In the Union Parish, Louisiana, Marriage Records for 1839-1900 by John C. Head Volume 1 page 5 John SMITH and Nancy THOMPSON 26 Dec 1850 Almost all of the years 1857-1865 are missing so I can't find your other marriage. I will look this afternoon in cemetery books for more info. Debi Burgess Sharon Jung wrote: > > I found a family listed in the 1860 Union Parish census that > could be mine.
