Sherry, This virus was sent as an attachment. Since the Rootsweb maillists do not allow any attachments, it went through private email. What this virus (or worm) did was to go through undeleted email, replied to the sender of that email, and sent itself. When I caught the virus, it tried to go to a friend of mine who was living in Japan, but has since moved back to Texas and now has a new email address. I got a message from the Japanese server that that email address is no longer in service. My address book has the current email address.
