    1. [LAUNION] Hosea Holcombe Bible Records
    2. I noticed Tim Hudson had posted a biography of Eudocia Holcombe Rockett on the Union Parish, LA USGenWeb Archives web site. I was not able to access Tim's e-mail address, so I am posting the following information hoping it may find it's way to him. I have in my files the Bible Records of Hosea Holcombe , Tim may or may not have. Two of Hosea Holcombe's sons married McAdams women. I have always heard we were related to the Rockett family, but did not know how. Hosea Teague McAdams of Union Parish was my grandfather. 2. Tonight we put up two Odom family pictures from Bruce Odom, the six sons of Jesse Odom and Benjamin W. Odom and his wife Anna Purdy Davis. Also the following obits from Joann Ward McBride: Oscar Ward, 1969 Melvin Ward, 1972 Darrell L. Ward, 1977 (Joann has 3 more coming that I will get up soon.) And from Debbie Richards: Mary A. Tabor, 1896 J. W. Nolan, 1897 M. Livingston, 1897 Elizabeth Buckalew, 1897 Joe Shaw, 1897 (this was an accidental shooting and I also put it in "Newspapers" W. J. Picket, 1898 Marcus Meeks, 1898 Mrs. Fowler, 1898 Mrs. J. P. (S.J.) Everetts, 1898 Lizzie Henderson, 1898 Mrs. James S. Slawson, 1898 She also sent the 1898 article about the marriage of Mr. S. R. Smith to Miss Amelia Kennedy, and I put that in both "Marriages and Newspapers." Also, I need to appeal to Sherry Gritzbaugh. Sherry, I have the photos you sent of Middlefork Bayou and a lady named Bagwell, but in changing e-mails, I lost the descriptive information. Could you please resend? Thanks. Now, I will be cleaning up little bits of stuff here and there, but I must tell you that I am resigning as Archives Coordinator for Union Parish. I have loved every minute of the last four years, and I can't thank each and every one of you enough for your contributions. However, my health has deteriorated, and I have to stop and try to regain my health. I have recently been diagnosed with four problems, two of which cause and make worse the fourth - which is Insulin Resistance, the last step before type 2 diabetes. Right now I am beginning to control it with diet and medication, but it is affecting both how quickly I heal and my vision. In the last year I have gone from "just the beginnings of cataracts" to "needing cataract within the year." My job, I'm a data manager, depends on my eyesight, and I've got to do everything I can to save it. I'll be around - on the list, but I'm giving that up too. Karen PS - I know they haven't gotten all our censuses up, and I'll keep goading them on that - or pass the "goad" on to whoever takes my place.

    1. Death Records
    2. Hi All, a very nice person by the name of Harold D., has helped me solve a research problem with Ancestry.Com, this was a 'major step' in my research. Now, I'm wondering if Union Parish, LA. has a death record index? And, if so, would it be in book form or on line? I'm looking for the death date of William Calbert, he would have died between 1850 and 1857. Thanks for taking time in reading, and for any guidance you can give. Dena Jordan Pittsburg, Ca. 1. George M. Savage
    2. Hello! I visited Union Parish Courthouse a few days ago and came across an unrecorded record on George M. Savage. I was searching through the original records that are stored in boxes there. This paper would prove without a doubt who this man's father was. "Do not record", was written on the front of this document. It was from 1843. If there are any descendants of this man out there, please contact me. I also went through the some of the microfilmed Farmerville Gazettes while I was there in Farmerville. I am submitting some obituaries and death notices to Karen to put on the archives. They will be for these people: Mrs. Isabella Munger Trimble (I found two of the obituaries for her, both of them were great), Mr. Malon H. Thornton and his wife Allie B. Thornton, Josephine A. Dean, wife of Elijah M. Dean, Mr. J. W. Nolan (short death notice), Mr. W. J. Pickel, Mrs Mary A. Tabor, wife of Dr. T. J. Tabor (another great obit), Marcus Meeks (short notice), Mrs. S. J. Everett, wife of Eld. J. P. Everett, Mr. McElhancy (short notice), Mrs. Lizzie Henderson (short notice), Mrs. James S. Slawson (short notice), Mrs. Elizabeth Buckalew (short notice), and a very interesting article about the accident that took the life of Joe Shaw. All of these were found in 1896 to 1898 newspapers. Thanks! Debbie Richard

    2. Nelda Breazeale
    3. I was recently in Union Parish and didnt come across but one volume of Union Parish History. It was at the library and they kept it behind the counter ! After several attempts to ask questions on Union Parish history the clerk took it out and said it couldn't be checked out only read there at the library. It must be a very treasured book ! I would love also to my hands on volume I & II. There is very little family histories at the library. My hopes are to place the Redden and Glass families there if I ever get through! Nelda Breazeale

    2. Hudson, Timothy D
    3. Dr. Williams used to live on Cole Avenue, but he now lives on Lakeview Drive. He is not at this time planning to publish volume 3 due to insufficient interest (this is what he told me when I talked to him last back in Oct 2001). I believe his volumes contain a wealth of data on Union Parish families, and I was particular interested in the third volume, which I believe would include a chapter on Union Parish. If many on this list are interested, please write and let Dr. Williams know of your interest.
