    1. [LAUNION] Griffing/Griffin Genealogy
    2. James Mathis
    3. William Lorenzo Addison Griffing was born 22 Apr 1839 in Union Parish. About 1861, he married Caroline Cato in unknown location. Caroline Cato was born 10 Sep 1837 in MS and had a previous marriage to Edwin R. Davis of Copiah, county MS. Davis died shortly after the marriage. W.L.A. Griffing/Griffin volunteered for service with the Confederate army in 1862. Within a few months of his joining the Confederate forces, he was killed in an accident at Vicksburg, MS. The T. J. Stewart family Bible lists him as being buried at Roark/Stewart Cemetery near Marion, Union parish, LA. The only child of W.L.A. Griffing was John W. W. Griffin who was born 21 Mar 1862, or about the same time the older Griffing joined the army. We know what happened to John W. W. Griffin as he was my maternal gr-grandfather. He is buried at Henson Cemetery in Jackson parish, LA. What I need is information on the elusive Caroline Cato Davis Griffing. The last record I have of her is when she sells land following the filing of succession papers on W.L.A. Griffing's estate in Union parish after his death. I would like very much to find out whether she remarried or what happened to Caroline after the estate was settled. The Henry Cato (Caroline's father) family Bible lists her as dead before her marriage to Griffing. Why would she be listed as dead? Did she do something to shame the family? Caroline and her sister Victoria had been sent to live with the Reuben and Louvenia Millsaps family in Copiah county, MS when they were still children. Louvenia Millsaps gave her a slave girl (deed record), possibly as a wedding gift when Caroline married Davis. Any information on Caroline Cato Davis Griffing would be very much appreciated.
