I am researching those families shown in subject line. Paul Covington pcovingt@ipa.net De Queen, Arkansas
Hi gang, This url will take you to the new "thank you" page for all the work our wonderful volunteers have done: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/la/union/union.htm Maggie sent all the urls for our transcribed files to our parish archives coordinator before she left to do some professional genealogy in western Ohio. I am still in touch with the images people and trying to get a definite answer about when our 1820 and 1830 Ouachita and the corrected 1840 Union and the 1930 Union images will be accessible. I will let you know as soon as I know. For anyone new - I research the MABRY, COOK, COPLEN (COPELAND), and MOORE families in Union Parish. On the personal side, I have lost more sight in my right eye in the last three months, but I have an appt with an endocrinologist tomorrow afternoon, so maybe I will know more after that. This was a good idea, Mary, and I miss you guys, too! Karen
Greetings all!! It appears that this list is full of Coplen/Copeland researchers. :-) The family names that I am reserching is POWELL, BRITTON, COPLEN/COPELAND, and MOORE. POWELL--I am researching William Jasper Powell and his wife Mary Elizabeth Britton. They left Heard Co, GA in the early 1870's with their 9 children and settled in Union Parish (later became Lincoln Parish). Mary died in the 1870's and William married Elizabeth Edwards (widow of Rubin Edwards) in 1879 and soon moved to Texas taking only his youngest son and 3 of her children with them. I am still trying to learn what became of some of the POWELL children. The oldest, Buena Vista Jane, married James FOMBY. They went to Texas in their later years, but I don't know when or where they died or where they are buried. The other daughters: Virginia (married Hiram BURSON--moved to Texas), Martha Texana (married Joseph Jackson EDWARDS, her step-brother--moved to Texas), Elovena (I have been told married Wash CLARK--no more info), and Purla (married ? EDISON--no more info). The sons were Leroy (married first Bertha HAMILTON, moved to Texas and married two more times), William Emanuel (no more info), John Thomas (married Ida May FULLER, Annie COPLEN, and Nina SHAW--then moved to Texas), and Joseph Edward (went to Texas with his father and married in Runnels Co TX). BRITTON--Mary Elizabeth Powell's brother was John J Britton. He and his wife, Amanda Bays, came from Troup/Heard Co GA. John and his wife did move to Texas around 1890, but it appears that they probably moved back. COPLEN/COPELAND--James Russell Coplen and his wife Sarah Ann EDDY. One of their sons was Demetrius Colvin COPLEN, who was married to Susan MOORE. MOORE--George Washington MOORE and his wife Eliza Ann REED. He married second, Martha Adeline CLARK. Thanks, Gaylon Powell Austin TX

Hi all, I'm researching the HILL, TRAYLOR, and WHITE families who were in Union Parish during the mid-1800. Hope to find fellow researchers for these lines. Best regards, Susan Hill Husij Phoenix, AZ
It has been a long time. Has anyone heard the status on getting the transcribed census on line? I know Karen and I devoted the first part of this year to the 1880, 1900 and 1920 Census. The families I am researching are the McAdams, McGarity, Grafton and Post families. Shawn Martin
Lillian, Do you have any information on Rosa Bagwell? I have a birthdate of 1/9/1892 and date of death 4/1987 in Morehouse Parish, LA. Dates were taken from the Social Security Index. Rosa married Horace Edward McGarity, but I don't have a date. Horace was born 1/26/1885 in Union Parish and died 8/1971 in Morehouse Parish, LA. I have been told they are both buried in the Bastrop Cemetery. Horace was the brother of my grandmother. Do you have any information on Rosa? I would love to know the name of her parents. Shawn Martin
