    1. [LAUNION] Re: Roll Call
    2. I seldom if ever get an attachment on my e-mail and NEVER open one from an address which I do not recognize. After the roll call started, I notice a lot of attachments coming in from addresses which I do not recognize. Would it be rude of me to ask that you send your information by regular e-mail. I do want to hear from you but do not want to risk getting a virus or worm. Thanks, Sherry

    3. I have already answered the Roll Call once, but I had another thought on something. Maybe someone can help me find Sarah (Johnston??). She married John Henry Auld, probably in Union Co around 1864/1865. I am not sure on her last name, I am taking a WILD guess that Johnston is her maiden name, due to the fact that Johnston is a sons middle name. Not Johnson, but Johnston. Anyone researching that name? Thanks Jo Cox

    2. Judy Brush
    3. I am looking for information about my great-great grandparents, James D. and Permelia Griffin. Permelia was first married to Nathan Talley and they had a daughter named Mary Ann (Polly) Talley. I have found guardianship records from the early 1850's in Union Parish regarding Mary Ann Talley and James D. and Permelia Griffin. My great grandfather was Evington Fort Griffin, born 1850 in Union Parish. He had a younger brother named Francis Marion. Any information about this Griffin line or the Talley line would be appreciated. Thank you, Judy

    1. [LAUNION] Bryan(t), Risinger, Harrison, Holloway
    2. I'm researching families listed in subject line.....However, I am particularly interested in Benjamin A. Bryan, listed in 1850 census in household of Redden Bryan....He married around 1855 but because Union Parish has lost marriage book from 1851-1870, I do not know who he married. He was friends to McAdams, seales and Davis', from research I have done. He lived next door to Post and Weaver. I can not find him in 1860 census, but he served in confederacy with Jackson Parish Sharpshooters, under Captain seales, and later Captain Davis......I believe he is shown in 1870 census Ward 3 HH3103 page 15, Enum 17 July 1970 with Julius McAdams( the Bayou bryant age 45 born in Ga. I believe is Benj A bryant...I know he had a son Benjamin Franklin A, who married a Davis when he got older...The Joseph, I am not sure of. In that same census, another son James R. and daughter Alice is living with a Post and another daughter Rachael is living with a wever family. I believe Benj.'s wife had died perhaps when the youngest daughter was born (4 yrs old) in 1870. Can anyone help with any info on this family....I can find no records of marriage, death or gravesite in area. Daughter Alice Francis married Mitch Robertson, Daughter rachel married Lafayette Post, son James R. (Jim) married first Callie Risinger, second Martha Shinpok. My grandfather Jacob C. (Son) was born when Callie and a twin died.....1887....Wish I could find the link between th McAdams, Post, Seales and Davis......Benj. was born in Ala. Not sure if Redden is his father or brother or brother in law.......could use all the help I can get. Thanks Barb Bryant Jester Limestone, Tenn.

    1. [LAUNION] Julia Goyne McAdams
    2. Tim, Thank you so much for the information you sent regarding Julia Goyne and the McAdams family. You have provided me with information I have been searching for many years. First, you have corrected me regarding Julia Sophia Goyne's correct name. On the marriage certificate I found at the Union Parish Courthouse her first name is listed as India. I went back to see if I misread the document, but it still looks like India. Second, on the 1880 census, if you will look two houses before Julia Sophia Goyne McAdams and her son Joseph, you will find Rachael A Seals and Julia McAdams. This would be Julia Ann (maiden name Lawler or Garner) McAdams and daughter Rachel who married Levi Seale, Julia Goyne McAdams's mother in law and sister in law. Thirdly, you stated Julia Ann McAdams was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. I have been trying to find which church they attended. Do you know if this church also had a graveyard? I have been trying to find the burial place of both Julia and James T. McAdams. I obtained the following information from the McAdams Historical Society "James T. was a Baptist minister. R. Ann Symons thinks that he and Julia (Lawler) may be buried in the old cemetery around Spearsville, Union Parish, LA." I have often wondered if James T. was the pastor of a church in Union Parish and possibly buried there. I know from family history they lived near Caanan Baptist Church (where other McAdams family members are buried), but I have not been able to find their graves. You did provide me with a exact year of death (1865) from the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church records for James T. The only other information I had on James T. McAdams' death was obtained from a letter written by his brother R.E.W. McAdams to their sister Rebeckah McAdams Gould dated Sunday Sept. 15, 1867. This letter was published in "The Heirtage of Shelby Co., AL", page 319: "...I presume from the way you wrote you had not heard of the death of Brother James. If I am not miztaken in my recollection he has been dead over three years. All his sons are dead...." This letter was informing Rebecca of the status of the McAdams family after the Civil War. From this letter, I assumed James T., along with all his sons were killed during the civil war. We have never been able to find my great great Grandfather Rufus Henry McAdams' grave either. Another letter I have that was written by James T. McAdams refers to "Brother Post". This is referring to William Bell Post who later became the Father-in-law of James' son Rufus. 1855 -- Letter from James T. McAdams to his sister Rachel McAdams Gould 2/16/1855 Union Parish La Feby 16th AD 1855 Dear Brother & Sister, With pleasure I address you a line hopeing this may find you all in good helth. We ar all well except colds. I have a sevear cold at this time. Brother Post is hear at this time & it gave me much pleasure to see him and hear from you all & it also affords me much pleasure to think if no providentally occurrence to prevent that I will yet live at neighbors to some of my Kindred recovering to the flesh. My dear Sister it gives me sorrow of heart to lern that you have bin suffering under the afflicting hand of providence but my dear sister be of good chear for the time is not fair aistent(?) when we will leave the mortal shores of time and land ( I hope) in a region where pain sickness and sorrow will be felt nor known no more &C. I will now say to you that my children are all grown & all left me but Robert, Ruffus & Rachel. (?) she is save twenty pounds hevier than her mother as to further particulars of our cousin and our condition in life Brother Post will inform you more minutely than I could write. I wish you to write to me often so I will close hopeing ever to remain your most affectionate Brother. J. T. McAdams NOTE: On the back of this letter was written "David Gold, Shelby County Ala -- Postings(?) of W. B. Post" And lastly, you asked for any other information on Julia Goyne McAdams. As far as I have been able to determine Julia and E. J. McAdams only had the one son, Joseph F. McAdams. The following is all I have in my data file. I hope something here will help someone else. JULIA SOPHIA1 GOYNE was born 1840 in Georgia. She married ETHELBERT JULIUS MCADAMS June 15, 1856 in Union Parish, LA, son of JAMES T. MCADAMS and JULIA (LAWLER or GARNER). 1. RE: [LAUNION] A bit of Hiram Goyne information
    2. Hudson, Timothy D
    3. Hi Shawn, Regarding Julia Sophia Goyne McAdams: She apparently lived with her son near Spearsville, as a widow, until her death after 1880. I have not located her on the 1870 census (over 1 million white Southerners were purposely missed on that census due to Reconstruction politics), but she is on the 1880 census living with her son. Look at the following URL, household #207 (this is page 151 of the 1880 census images online at the Union Parish archives site): http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/union/census/1880/0151.gif I cannot locate a death date for Julia right now, although I thought I had found one a few years ago. I think I confused her with Julia Ann McAdams (her mother-in-law ??), who was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church north of Spearsville between 1861 and her death after 1880. Also a member there was J. T. McAdams, who also joined in 1861 but whose death is recorded in the church records as 1865. Susan Lupo Goyne Davis, the widow of Hiram D. Goyne, Sr. and Julia Sophia Goyne McAdams' mother, joined the church in 1861, but was dismissed in 1862. Finally, Julia Sophia Goyne McAdams' brother Joseph R. Goyne joined in 1870 and was the church clerk until his death in 1880. However, I have not located Julia Sophia Goyne McAdams herself on the partial church membership list. I'm in the process of going through the old minutes and abstracting them to put on the archives page, so perhaps something on her will turn up. If you have any additional information on Julia Sophia Goyne Davis or her descendents, I would be interested in it. Did she only have one son, Joseph F. McAdams? Robbie Landry and I have much data on the ancestry of Julia Sophia Goyne's father, Hiram Davis Goyne, Sr. (c1799-1852). Tim Hudson -----Original Message----- From: SMARCMAR@aol.com To: LAUNION-L@rootsweb.com Sent: 8/28/02 5:35 PM Subject: [LAUNION] A bit of Hiram Goyne information You may have this information, but I will send it anyway. 1850 -- Union Parish, LA Census 778 778 Hiram Goyne 51 M Farmer 1000 GA Susan Goyne 35 F GA Sophia Goyne 11 F GA Victoria Goyne 9 F GA Frances Goyne 2 F LA Joseph Goyne 20 M Farmer GA Matilda Goyne 15 F GA Mary Carmicle 11 F MS John Carmicle 6 M MS James Carmicle 4 M LA The Sophia listed in the Census is India Sophia Goyne.
