    1. Re: [LAUNION] Old photos and what we should do with them
    2. Lynda Moreau
    3. I have done the same things with old cabinet cards, etc. I've found at estate sales (and antique shops). It is fun and a real act of kindness to try to "send them home." The sad thing is to find living descendents that are so UNINTERESTED in the photos that they will not even reimburse you what you paid for them (usually very little)! Speaking as someone who has practically no ancestral photos, I would glad pay big bucks if anyone uncovered any pictures of my kin. One of my husband's ancestors actually operated a photography studio in Mississippi County, MO during the 1870's. If anyone ever comes across a cabinet card that has a "Walgamot Studios" in Charlston, MO imprint, I'll pay $100.00 for it, regardless of WHO is in the picture! 1. [LAUNION] Old pictures
    2. Mary Davis-Odom
    3. Hi Gang. I spent most of Saturday browsing around in shops in Antique Alley, West Monroe, La. (Ouachita Parish -next door to Union Parish) In one shop there were a lot of very old pictures that they had bought in estate sales. Of coarse, there were no names or places written on the back of them. I just wanted to remind all of you to get your pictures out, also parent's and grandparent's pictures while someone knows who they are and write not only their NAMES but also the CITY or COUNTY and STATE on the back of them. This would be a tremendous help to family researchers, especially years from now. It is so sad to find a picture of an ancestor and not know who they are and no one can tell you. 2. Leslie Liddiard
    3. Hi Robbie: I don't show Elanor Hickman in my FTM data base. I am searching for info on Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Hickman, b: 2/13/1808 in Pendleton District, SC and d: bet. 1870-1880 in Union Parish, LA. Her parent were Joseph Berry and Martha Pullen Hickman. She married Paschal James Shackelford on 2/8/1825 in Jefferson Co., AL. I believe that both of them may be buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Union Parish, LA. Paschal and Betsy are my maternal ggg-grandparents. I'm also looking for two of their four children, Nancy Amanda Shackelford Massey Johnson, b: abt. 1828 in Jefferson Co., AL and d: bet. 1870-1880 in Scott Co., AR. I'm looking for a son as well, Felix Shackelford, b: 5/15/1830 in Jefferson Co., AL and d: 7/17/1901 in Scott Co., AR. Most all of the Shackelford's in Union Parish are related in some way, so I have an interest in researching most all of them. I'll keep your Elanor in mind should I come across any info on her family. 3. Dear List, I am researching a Lynch family located in 1870 and 1880 census in Union Parish. 1870 census J. Barney Lynch, age 27, grocer keeper, b. Missouri Josephine, wife, age 25 b. Georgia Spencer (Allen), stepson?, age 7, b. Louisiana Henry, son, age 1, b. Louisiana Alis, dau, age 4/12, b. Louisiana 1880 census J. B. Lynch, farmer, age 37, b. Missouri J. Lynch, wife, age 35, b. Louisiana Henry Lynch, son, age 15, b. Louisiana Allie Lynch, dau, age 10, b. Louisiana R. or K. C. Lynch, son, age 6, b. Louisiana Spencer Allen, step-son, age 17, b. Louisiana B. F. Cats (Katz???), relationship listed as "other", age 24, b. Missouri Do any of these family members sound familiar to anyone? This Lynch family is buried in the Bernice City Cemetery. But, do any of you know anything about the migration trails, travel paths, etc. from Missouri to Union Parish, Louisiana? I know nothing about the settlement pattern from the northwest. Was Josephine from Georgia or had she possibly been in Missouri also? thank you, Susan Holley bholley@bayou.com

    1. [LAUNION] Union Parish Look-ups

    3. Dear Debi, Do you have a listing in your marriage book for Union Parish for a Henry Lynch? He died there approx 1924. However, his family is there by 1880 when he shows up as a child in the J. Barney Lynch and wife Josephine family. They are all buried near each other in the Bernice City Cemetery. I assume that J. Barney Lynch and wife Josephine were married before they came to Union Parish but you may check the index anyway. I don't have a clue as to where they were married. The last marriage I would greatly appreciate a look-up on is the daughter of J. Barney Lynch and Josephine, Allie Lynch who was married to Hiram Lafayette Touchstone. He died in Union Parish in 1908 and is buried in Bernice City Cemetery near his wife's parents and brother-in-law. Family legend is that H. L. Touchstone and Allie eloped but to where? Maybe they were married in Union Parish? Thank you, Susan Holley bholley@bayou.com
