    3. Hello! I'm writing to let everyone know that I have taken over as the File Manager for the Union Parish Louisiana USGenWeb Archives site. Please consider donating transcriptions of any Union Parish records or photographs to be posted on the site. I will make every attempt to post materials in a timely fashion. Here are some of the new postings: Spearsville Baptist Church minutes!! Thanks to Shawn Martin for her efforts in transcribing the records. They are invaluable to those of us with early Spearsville ancestors. Tom Crowe submitted a Buckley Bible record. In addition, I have fixed the broken links on some of the newspaper abstracts and added a few more. How about a roll call to see who's still with us? 3. Dear Pam, Union Parish marriages between January 1874 and January 1880 are missing. I did not find any marriages for the "George" surname between 1870 and 1874. This might be in Union Parish. It would be between a Louisa George and a Holloway male. I don't know this Holloway's first name. This would be a second marriage for Louisa because the 1880 Union Parish census records say she has a son named James George age 14. The marriage would be between the years of 1870 and 1876. 2. Jan, Before you donate the church records to the Library, could you share the surnames mentioned in the church minutes? I live in Virginia and do not have access to the Library. I am trying to find the death records for my ancestors James T. and Julia McAdams. I know James T. was a minister, but we can't find which church he was the preacher or where he died. I am also a descendant of the McGarity and Post families of Spearsville. Thank you for anything you can share. Shawn Martin

    1. Re: [LAUNION] Spearsville Baptist Church
    2. Jan Craven
    3. Hello Shawn, and all :) James T is not listed in the list of pastors from 1848 to 1985. The minutes are not typed up but copies of the original minutes and has no index. It is in the original handwriting and is 110 pages front and back. The minutes cover 1848-1900, so there is no copyright involved, so it could be copied. I think Office Depot charges .13 a page to make copies for you, so the cost of copying this would be about $14.50 plus my postage costs. For someone who has deep roots in the area, it would be a great service to transcribe and put online in the archives. I have another couple of huge projects already going, so I just don't have the time to do this. If any of you are willing to pay the cost of copying and mailing, I'll have copies made for you. I have the old church records for a very old "Hardshell" Bapt church that was here in Calcasieu parish and another one is online for Amite County Miss that gives sometimes wonderful..sometimes interesting information about my ancestors (one was "churched" for shooting the eyes out of a neighbor's bull). Let me know privately if you want a copy and I'll tell you where to send the money. Keep Searching! 1. [LAUNION] Spearsville Bapt Church
    2. Jan Craven
    3. Good morning all, In going through all of my great aunt's (in-law) papers I find that she had a book put together by a cousin of hers, Eunice Cole with copies of what appear to be the old church minutes and records starting in 1848 and going to 1900. Is there a copy of this in the library in Spearsville? I also have a history that Eunice Cole wrote for the 137th anniv. of the church in 1985. I held hopes that the Coles in this church were kin to hubby, Bruce's Cole gr+grama, Nancy who married John Henry Craven AND Hardy K Poole, both gr+grandads of Bruce. Nancy & Hardy are buried just over the line at Good Hope Church in Union Co Ark. If the library there doesn't have these, I'd like to donate them to that library so that they would be available for some of you local folks to get some good from them. Hope you are not toooo cold up there. It's pretty chilly down here in Lake Charles! Always looking. Jan
