Hello, everyone. I'm finally back on-line after months with no e-mail access. My old e-mail address was slinder@mail.smu.edu. My new address is seijl@mac.com. Please up-date your address books. After 18 years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. I have a new job as the Executive Director for the Chickasaw Cultural Center which is scheduled to open October 2006 in Sulphur OK. I'm currently officed at the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters Building in Ada, OK and live right in the middle of no where! In Roff, OK. We get Dallas radio stations as we come into town from the south none in town and then OKC stations as we leave. I have to do the Green Acres thing to get me cell phone to work. I go out on the second floor balcony and lean as far south as I can to get any signal at all. Bought a 1904 Victorian house and working on fixing it up. Anyway all is going well and I hope to be back into geneaology soon. Researching: Linder, Nolan, Chinn, Riles, Holloway, etc. Sue Linder-Linsley
Hi Linda, There are no households listed on the Mortality Schedules. It is merely a list of names of those who died between 1 June 1859 and May 31 1860. There is no precise way in 1850,1860 to corrolate the people who died with their family which should be on the regular population schedule of the census. The only way is to study the surrounding names and guess, as I indicated in my original message. Tim >From: "Linda Davis" <ldavis8@msn.com> >To: "Timothy D. Regarding J. A. Davis whose death in June 1859 was listed on the 1860 Union Parish LA Mortality Schedule: I re-checked the microfilmed original records today. The census enumerator indeed listed his birth as 'Ark', he was 35, male, white, died in June 1859, was a farmer, and he died of "Intemperance" and the length of his illness was listed as 'Instantaneous'. Both of the names listed immediately before and after J. A. Davis (Elizabeth Sally listed before, A. Seals) came from families living in the Downsville post office region south of Farmerville). Thus, it is clear to me that his death was reported by a household listed in the Downsville post office region. Elizabeth Salley was probably from household #410 or so, and A. Seals was from #424. There is a Davis household between these two, #418,419, so this all suggests that this J. A. Davis came from that household. But of course, this is not definite. I hope this helps. Dear Dena, Please clarify one thing in your posting. You wrote: "1833: Caroline Tisdale (Carolines sister) marries William Calvert, Greene County, AL." Did you happen to mean "Jane Tisdale"? This is as far as I will go on this one because my main question to anybody researching this family is....Was Jesse Brantley married at the time of his death, and if so..what was his wife's name? On the rootsweb world connect, there is a genealogy of this family as also is the same on familysearch.org, but per Ken Brantley, manager of the Brantley Family Association, the lady listed as being married to Jesse, who is Mary O'Rear is incorrect. Dear Linda, I transcribed the 1860 Union Parish Mortality Schedule many years ago (1992, to be precise) from the microfilmed originals. I think I own the microfilm, but I will have to check. My notes from twelve years ago have that J. A. Davis was born in "Arkansas". I will double check the birthplace on the originals. I may well have made an error. Hello everyone, While trying to complete a listing of the 1860 Union Parish Mortality Schedule that lists all 1859-1860 deaths recorded by the 1860 census enumerator, I can't resist passing along these deaths from rather unusual causes: Adam Skains, aged 61, born in South Carolina, was murdered in March 1860 These four men all died from "intemperance" (alcoholism): J. A. Davis, died June 1860, aged 35, born Arkansas, farmer J. M. Heard, died Dec 1859, aged 58, born Georgia, farmer William McCullum, died June 1860, aged 42, born Alabama Daniel Pucket, died Aug 1859, aged 44, born South Carolina, carpenter A. Gaskill, aged 36, male, born Tennessee, committed suicide in Dec 1859 Georgia Ann Auld, aged 20, died from a cold in April 18 Tim Hudson _________________________________________________________________ Get ready for school! Just a note to say thanks to all of you that replied to my post re marriage record of Lynds Sterling, especially Ruth & Beverly, and any others who may have replied. Your assistance was greatly appreciated. Paul R. DAFFT (PDafft@Juno.Com) 1605 Cottonwood Road Carrollton (Dallas Co.),Texas, 75006-3856
It appears that my first post failed to go thru, so am reposting. Am looking for someone with an Ancestry dot com subscription to their U.S. Records Collection and am asking if they would look at a marriage record for me. It is found in Louisiana Marriages, 1718-1925 which is found in the US Records Collection. The marriage is for Lynds Sterling. I have a record of his 1821 marriage in Ouachita Psh, La to Rachel Feazel, but know nothing of the 2nd marriage which I understand is listed in the above referenced collection along with his marriage to Rachel Feazel. Anyhelp would be appreciated very much. Paul R. DAFFT (PDafft@Juno.Com) 1605 Cottonwood Road Carrollton (Dallas Co.),Texas, 75006-3856
Re my previous post. This marriage is listed in LOUISIANA MARRIAGES, 1718 - 1925, which is contained in Ancestry dot com's U S Record Collection. Paul R. DAFFT (PDafft@Juno.Com) 1605 Cottonwood Road Carrollton (Dallas Co.),Texas, 75006-3856
