    2. Hudson, Timothy
    3. Hi Sherry, Dr. Max Williams is not currently on the mailing list. He now lives in Mexico, but returns to Louisiana for visits periodically. I agree about Shorty (Arelia) Breed. Although she was a transplanted Yankee, her deep interest in the early history and genealogy of Union Parish was amazing. She was one of my very best friends, and I also miss her greatly. Arila Breed did so much for us during her lifetime. I am enjoying all the messages from the Union Parish website so much, but miss some of the names. Are Max Williams, Don Feazell, Christy Stewart and Glen Thompson still on the list? It has been so many years. You are all lighting a fire under me. My interest is growing. Your work is greatly appreciated. When the NE Genealogy Historical Society stopped printing out their journal I lost interest but would like to get back into genealogy now. 3. Hello Union Parish, I just sent an e-mail to someone in which I praised Arelia Breed and all she did for us. She sent me so many hand-written notes over the years as she ran into new info in all those scrambled up papers at the courthouse. I would not know what I know today about the Grays and Tubbs and Porters and Nobles without her help and when I was visiting in Bernice her door was always open to me so we could exchange and share. She was a great friend and I miss her greatly too. 3. Our trip to Union Parish turned out to be a pleasure. The countryside is simply beautiful. The people at the courthouse and library were very helpful. Old documents at the courthouse are even kept in "sleeves" for safekeeping. Sandra Van Wyk

    3. I also appreciate everything she does for researches. I don't think Fred meant anything other than they had been surveyed already. This is true, but we have to remember new folks have been buried there with their ancestors and without people like Mary Anne to update them, we would have to travel miles and miles to see who and how many have been added. Thanks Mary Anne and Fred, keep asking questions. That is the only way we will find out the answers. 3. Fred, All of those books have been available for years, but they are copyrighted and being sold for a profit - and thus, not available to put online for free research. Our only alternative has been to do new surveys, which is not a bad idea - some of those surveys were done 40 years ago, and a few ppl have died since then. Mary Anne is a Union Parish resident who has been gracious enough to slog around in mud, heat, rain, and mosquitos (we won't talk about the snakes - a-a-a-agh!!) to bring us new, fresh, and completely copyright free surveys so they can be put on line to be accessed free! 1. final 2004 Union Parish Archives update
    2. T. D. Hudson
    3. Hello! To those AOL subscribers on our Union Parish mailing list, you probably missed several messages to this list. AOL was blocking all roobsweb messages for a while over the weekend, but I think that AOL has fixed the problem now. If you are interested in the messages that you may have missed, go here: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/LAUNION/2004-12 This is the final 2004 update to the Union Parish Archives. I still have photographs to load from Marc Hollingsworth and Lyle Smith, and I will try to get those finished early next year. Here are the new items since last week's update: 1) 1910 Census images are completed, thanks to Karen Mabry Rice. The original images on the archives were too small to read properly. Karen spent loads of time improving the images. Here is the URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/union/census/union-1910.htm/ 2) Update to the Beech Grove Cemetery from Gina Sherrard. Both the alphabetical and normal listings are updated: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/union/cemeteries.htm 3) Tombstone photographs from the following cemeteries from Bruce Odom: a) Zion Hill Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/la/union/cemetery/zion-hill.html b) Alabama-Weldon Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/la/union/cemetery/alabama-weldon.html c) Concord Cemetery http://ftp.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/la/union/photos/cemetery.htm d) Farmerville Cemetery http://ftp.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/la/union/photos/cemetery.htm 4) 1895 Spearsville Death Notices: a) six year old son of W. L. Cherry b) John W. Henderson, aged 52 c) Mrs. Joe Hollis, aged 19 d) Mr. John Galbreath, aged 60 These are indexed alphabetically in the table on this page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/union/obituaries.htm 5) 1895 Obituaries: a) James W. Pickel b) Mahalia Head Smith of Oakland, wife of Elder Woody K. Smith c) Annie Pleasant Merrimon, former Shiloh resident d) Albert Slawson of near Farmerville e) Lorena Walker Nyegard 6) Other Obituaries: Clementine Bethany Gill Hicks, 1896 Lee Goyne, 1910 David Nolan, 1912 7) 1895 Newspaper Articles: a) Farmerville Jailbreak b) Steamer Burns in Bayou D'Arbonne with 450 bales of Union Parish cotton c) George Carroll of Spearsville Wins 1st in medical school class at Tulane d) Bale of cotton kills boy in Spearsville e) Farmerville brass band invited to Junction City f) coffee grown in Farmerville by Zach T. Goyne g) Steamer "Rosa B" begins Bayou Trade All newspaper articles indexed here: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/la/union/newspapers/unionnewsarticles.htm 8) 1910 Newspaper Articles: a) Fishing explosion on Little Cornie Bayou b) Nolan Family Shootout - Archer Nolan found not guilty c) Armadillo in Union Parish d) Miss Wilbur Peek saves Ouachita City from Fire 9) 1912 Newspaper Articles: Recollections of Downsville Settler S. P. Lewis - among other things, he states that travel to Shreveport was by stage until 1884, when the first railroad was completed between Monroe and Shreveport. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!! 2. Karen Rice
    3. I join Tim in thanking all those who have contributed, but I'd also like to thank Tim. I know most of you have visited archives in other states as you research, and I think you might agree that Tim has turned Union Parish into - if not THE best (my opinion) - certainly one of the top archive sites on the web!!
