    3. Hi. I have put a couple of Bapt Association minutes from this time period into the LaGenWeb Archvies. These types of things are GREAT. The La Bapt Assoc Building in Alexandria has a library that has lots of the assoc minutes books in them. They were printed up and give all sorts of info. Here is an example of what one looks like. This is in the Tangipahoa pr archives <ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/tangipahoa/church/magee.txt> so don't expect to see any of those good ole UNION Pr. boys and girls in there. I have a friend who found a death notice for an aunt in one of these books and that is the only place she found that information. These are great little known resources! 2. For Roy Austin....I talked to your cousin, Morelle Elliott and his wife Elaine [my cousin] today and they said they would be happy to furnish any and all records that are available for Pisgah Baptist Church for our UNION project. Elaine and her sister - Mary Alyce Roberson are working on the history of Pisgah at this time. Morelle has worked on a Plat for the church property and will have it for the reunion [as it is finished now]. Morelle said to contact him by snail mail at his Memphis address that you have or you can use [318]285-0509 at this time, as I found them at Bernice. He did not know about Shiloh's 150th but will find out when it is to be and also told me that Bernice is celebrating their 100th in 1999. Said he would get the information and call me this week, so I could e-mail you with it. Seems as if this UNION reunion was just meant to be in 1999. Would it not be wonderful if all three could be at the same time. Maybe a long weekend of Friday-Saturday-Sunday and leftovers for Monday. mary margaret

    1. Claiborne Parish records
    2. Gina Sherrard
    3. Hello, Because the lines of the parish have changed over the years and because of the closeness of the areas, a lot of marriages took place in Claiborne Parish. If you have looked in Union and have been unsuccessful try Claiborne. I have a book "Claiborne Parish Marriages 1849-1910" I would be happy to do look-ups if you want to submit the names. I thought I might share some tips that I have learned in my 13 plus years of research. One thing I have found helpful is to call the funeral home that took care of the funeral arrangements and ask for a copy of the death certificate, if it hasn't been too long the usually still have a copy. It will list place of birth, parents, ETC. I have become good friends with Bailey and Kilpatrick funeral homes over the last few years! Some other interesting things I have received from funeral homes are service records, funeral orders ( the attire worn, casket, ETC.)and even flower cards and funeral cards. Also the court house keeps records of interment permits. These as to record who buried where. I have found out the cause of death the exact ages and the Doctor in charge at time of death. Also contact the newspaper or library in the town and request an obit, they are usually more than happy to send you copies, especially if you have done your homework, and know the date. I did this and not only got back the obit, but also the newspaper articles saying that they investigated it as a murder! The surprised the entire family as GGrandmother took that secret to the grave. I'm sorry this is kind of gruesome. I just thought it might help some of you just starting. Gina
