Hi all. I am so excited! I just loaded my first photo into the Union Parish Archives. It is a picture of William Winston Farrar and his wife Mary Frances (Mollie) Brasher and two of their sons, Winston and Tommy. The house in the background belonged to Mark Phillips and was on the way to Oakland from the Farrar's house. The house was later moved to the crossroads in Oakland next to the post office. William was the son of Robert Francis Farrar and Mineta S V Wood and Mollie was the daughter of Jim T. Brasher and Sally DeShazo. Both William and Mollie are buried in Union Cemetery...at least that is what my father in law called it. We were up there a few years back for the Good Hope Bapt Church reunion and he and I went by that cem on the way home and stopped and said Hi to William and Mollie! Gina, Looking for a marriage involving a Templeton (male) to Emma (?) maiden name unknown. I know this is not much. My ggrandmother, Willie Templeton Whitehead, was born in 1888. Her father died shortly thereafter and Emma Templeton re-married, Robert McCleod around 1890 in Union Parish. Robert and Emma had several children, along with the parents and most of the children all lived and died in the Point Community and were buried at Mt. Arrarat Baptist Church Cemetery. Have been unable to find the marriage between Emma and her first husband Templeton. Tina

Louis, The Point Community is located in the southeast corner of Union Parish. Also known as the Point-Wilhite Community. Point and Rocky Branch are separated by the D'arbonne Bayou. The Point Post Office was closed around the 1940's(?) now this area is serviced by the Downsville Post Office. Tina

Hi, I'm new to the list, and seeking information on the family of my great-grandparents, who moved from Pike Co. Alabama to Union Parish probably between their marriage in 1857 and 1860. Jefferson B. SPIER (1836-1910) m. Sarah J. BOWEN (1841-1921). They lived in Ward 2, and many of the family members are buried at Liberty Cemetery in Linville. DON: You mention LEE family. I am researching my husband's REDDEN family. Millie B. REDDEN married Levi NORMAN in Little River, AR and lived in Union Parish. One of their daughters, Ellen Elizabeth NORMAN b. 1855 in UP married a Joseph Lee. Joseph and Ellen were listed in the 1880 census of Bowie County TX. I do not know if they married there or back in UP. Sure would like to find out more about this great aunt! BAGWELL RESEARCHERS: Do you have any information about Lewis or Thompson BAGWELL. They may have been with my Levi NORMAN when he was last reported on the Confederate records. Would like to find out what happened to him. COX RESEARCHERS: Julia Ann Norman married James Monroe COX abt 1883 in probably Bowie County TX. Don't know if he had a connection to UP. Census records and his death certificate say he was born in AR and I believe his family came from GA. So am thinking he might be kin to the UP COXES.
