Regarding the discussion about a speaker for the reunion, Max Harrison Williams, PhD of Farmerville, would be great as a speaker, and if he is not available E. Russ Williams of Monroe. Max Harrison Williams is a native of Farmerville and has researched many of the early settlers. E. Russ Williams has also done a lot of research. I do not know either of these gentlemen, only their work. They are both listed on the Union Parish webpage http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/5002/ under the heading BOOKS OF INTEREST TO UNION PARISH GENEALOGY. I would appreciate any information concerning the ANDERSON and/or WOOD families of Union Parish (c)1840- (c)1870 that anyone will share. I hope to attend the reunion, but cannot make definite plans at this time. Rena Anderson Pittman

Gregory, I checked my four volumes of Union Parish Cemetery Records and could not come up with your Watsons. Have you checked the other Parishes nearby since Downsville is located near the Parish Line. Sorry that I could not be of more help. Louis
Seeking any information on J.W. RINEHART and his family, who resided in the Downsville area in 1860. J.W. was born abt. 1825 in SC and his wife was born in AL. J.W. 's occupation was listed as engineer. I believe that his daughter, Mary C. RINEHART, married Thomas Alphin WATSON in Union Parish in 1866. Also, can anyone tell me at what graveyard in Sibley Thomas WATSON and his wife Mary are buried in (Thomas has a Confederate Vet. marker). Thanks for any information. Gregory R. Am so sorry I put in an incorrect period [dot] after the "gen" part for the 1895 map. I'd posted the correct one previously, some weeks ago. Here's the correct URL: http://www.livgenmi.com/1895.htm Ann Harper Bonner in north Louisiana [email protected]

Hi, Not long ago someone was asking about Cherry Ridge. I found this old map on GenWeb and thought It might be helpful. Debi
Joyemac, I need to clarify a recent note on Furney Bagwell, James R. Bagwell and Warren Thomas Bagwell. In a note on Jan. 13, you stated: "I have a note in my little notebook that Furney/Flurney, James & Warren Thomas were brothers. The source was Glenn O Thompson, Wichita, KS <[email protected]>" For many years, I and several others who have been researching the original Bagwell families in North LA have been trying to find proof that Furney Bagwell, James R. Bagwell and Warren Thomas Bagwell were brothers. They moved from AL to LA about the same time period and numerous papers show they had close personal and business relations. However, until recently, I had no proof that they were brothers. I now have proof that Furney Bagwell and James R. Bagwell were brothers, based on a combination of census data and succession papers. However, I have no proof that Warren Thomas Bagwell (also known as Thomas Warren Bagwell) was a brother to Furney and James. I believe he was, but I simply know of no proof that confirms this. Further, I have no information on their ancestors. I hope this clarifies the status of my information on these three pioneer N. LA Bagwells. Hopefully, someone will find proof in the near future that Warren Thomas Bagwell was also a brother to Furney and James. Glenn
To all, I don't recall posting my Gentry ancestors on this list, so it's shown below. My mother was Emma Lee (Bagwell) Thompson, daughter of Andrew Jackson Bagwell, Jr. and Emma Harriet Gentry of Choudrant, Lincoln Parish, La. To all, Thank you to all who answered my request for information on the location of Indian Village cemetery. As a result of your responses, I found Indian Village community and church/cemetery on my Ouachita Parish map. It is on the eastern edge of Ouachita parish, on Hyw. 144, about 2.5 miles SW of Calhoun, near the intersection of Lincoln, Jackson and Ouachita parishes. I look forward to visiting it the next time I am in La. According to my mother's old notes, Martha Lenora "Nora" Gentry (1862-1945) is buried there. Nora was a daughter of Tyre Gentry (1822-1908) and Mary Brown (1827-1882) and a sister of my grandmother, Emma Harriet Gentry (1866-1907). Emma married my grandfather, Andrew Jackson Bagwell, Jr. (1862-1938), on Dec. 15, 1885 in Lincoln Parish. Is anyone else on the list a descendent of Tyre Gentry and Mary Brown? Glenn

Some of us southerners probably pronounce it like that sometimes though!! But it is just Farmerville. There is a Gen. library in Monroe at the main office on 18th Street. They might could suggest someone but the best bet may be to ask someone at the Shreve Memorial Library genealogy department in Shreveport. They have a huge Gen department that also includes all the Civil War military records and pension applications on microfilm. They also have many of the actual deeds and marriage records of Union Parish on microfilm. I haven't been involved in the discussions so far on reunion. I live in West Monroe, La and would be happy to make any phone calls etc as needed to the Monroe library in reference to a possible speaker for ya'll. You might also want to tell folks who will be visiting the courthouse in Farmerville that it is a wonderful place for research. They have all the records except one marriage book for the period covering the late 1850's thru the mid 1860's. It was lost. There is not any seating available though. The staff there are also great. The Farmerville Library is also worth a stop. They have several books there on Union Parish families. I was recently in the Taylor cemetery near Crossroads in Union Parish. While there an elderly gentlemen approached us and asked if he could help us find anything. We told him we were just searching for the graves of some of our Wards/Nolans and Albrittons. To make a long story short, he turned out to be 76 years old and knew EVERY person except one that we were talking about and EVEN had a picture of the g-grandfather of the girl I was with! The next week he took it to a photo shop in Monroe and had a copy made for her. If your Union Parish ancestors were in the parish long, don't be surprised who you may meet that can tell you all kinds of things about them. They are some of the nicest people on earth and don't meet strangers! :-) Debi Antley Murphy --part0_916271764_boundary--
Glenn, Indian Village Cemetery is now located in Ouachita Parish southwest of Calhoun on Louisiana Highway 144. I have the index if you need lookups. Dorothy
Hi List! I'm wondering if anyone knows who I could contact to check on the records for the Providence Baptist Church in Point, LA. I have been told that my gg- grandfather, James Augustus Antley donated the land the church is on. I found where his son, Willis Council Antley donated the land around the church building to the church in 1898. My g-grandfather Thomas G. Guice was listed on the deed as one of the deacons of Providence accepting the donation. I seem to have several ancestors who were members, as was my grandparents. Tina Whitehead, if your still out there do you know anyone I could contact? I have lost your email address! Thanks, Debi Antley Murphy
To all, Does anyone know where the "Indian Village Cemetery" is located? I have a relative, Martha Lenora "Nora" Gentry, (1862-1945), who was buried there. She lived in the Union parish/ Lincoln parish areas, but I don't know where the cemetery is located. Glenn

We did get moved, but things are still hectic and it's kind of hard keeping up with all this. If I haven't told you already, the May 31st date is fine with me, barring any unforeseen problems. I think the potluck dinner would be fine too. If people cannot bring something already prepared, perhaps they could bring the ingredients and put it together there. I could do that, or bring a dish already prepared either. I'll be coming from Houston, but I have a stop in Oil City (which is just north of Shreveport), not too far away from Farmersville. An afternoon speaker would be great. Like I said, I haven't been keeping up with this lately, but maybe the Farmersville library could suggest someone, or maybe the local genealogical society (isn't there one in Monroe?). Sally Hale Help Desk Coordinator Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, January 10, 1999 1:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: UnionReunion '99--updated suggestions Hope everyone survived the holidays and is ready to get back down to business. I just returned from a rewarding trip to North Carolina. I've been travelling to Charlotte nearly every other week for several months for business. This past week, I decided to take a few days vacation in conjunction with the trip and go "hunting" in my ancestral lands of Moore and Lee County, NC. I was able to locate the graves of my gr-gr-gr-grandparents, Alexander and Catherine McIntosh, and prove the name of my gr-gr-grandfather, Roderick McIntosh--the father of Joseph Roderick McIntosh. Joseph Roderick was the father of my gr-grandfather, John McIntosh, who inturn was the father of my grandmother, Susie McIntosh (a sister of Clifton McIntosh, former Bernice mayor). Alexander and Catherine were both natives of Scotland, which excited me even more, because now (other than my Feazel ancestors) I have a known overseas connection. Now for some updated suggestions: Reunion Steering Committee: We need a few volunteers who are willing to make decisions for the group as a whole. I suggest five or six. These can stay in contact with each other and take necessary actions on short notice without having to wait on responses from the entire list. I'll volunteer for one of the slots--any other takers? Sorry, no cash, but you will feel really good when it is over. Send your name, email address, snail mail address and phone number with best times to call. Date--I am assuming that May 31st is an "approved" date. I've only seen a couple of responses. If so, who can volunteer to call the Shiloh pastor to arrange the use of the fellowship hall? Let me know if I need to do this. Registration fee--How does $5 per family sound. This will cover the cost of mailing, paper goods, names tags, etc. If we do end up with any left over, we can donate it. Keeper of the cash--I nominate Sue Linder since she is putting together the registration form. Haven't asked Sue if she wants the job--does any one else want it? Copiers--We should have at least 2 on hand. These would be of the desktop variety. Perhaps one of the local attorneys/CPAs/insurance agents have one they would lend us for the day. That was what was done at the Bibb County swap meet. We supply the paper and replacement toner. Costs are recovered by charging 10 cents per copy. Any extra gets donated. Maybe I'll finally breakdown and buy one for my own use. As much as I spend at Kinkos I could afford it. Meal--potluck sounds good. Shiloh has a pretty good kitchen with stove and microwave (for warming) and sink for cleaning up. Children/spouse activities--If they don't do genealogy, what's the use of bringing them along?? Just kidding!!!! There could horseshoes (I have a set with stakes). They could possibly go fishing at the Darbonne State Park--check on fishing license requirements. The Depot museum in Bernice may be open. Perhaps as a break in the early afternoon, we could have one speaker to give a short talk. Anyone up to it or know of a local historian that would do it? Shouldn't be for more than 30 minutes. The final decisions need to be made rather quickly in order the get the publicity out. Maradee has volunteered to design a flyer and she will need to know what to include. I've forgotten who the list owner is. Can someone send me his/her email address so that I can correspond offline? If anyone wants to call me, my phone number is (281) 463-4312. Best time to catch me is between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. (Central). Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sue, Like the suggestion on the invitation to Clinton. Hadn't thought about it, but it would make a nice addition to the reunion package. If we're holding the event at Shiloh, there should be no rental fee. Our family has never been charged one for its reunion that is held there each year. But we do take up a collection for a donation to the cemetery fund. Usually runs in the $300+ range. The meal has been the real tough decision. Either way is fine with me. Maybe the steering committee can make the executive decision. The second day of the two day event will be cemetery tours, so won't need a building, etc. Everyone would be on their own for meals. Roy
