Liberty Cemetery is on the grounds of Liberty Baptist Church. It is a small older church. but they are in the process of building on. My cousin Matthew Stringer was the Pastor there until he was killed in auto accident last year. The cemetery is pretty, I too have family buried there. Went by Liberty Church today. not notice the cemetery, but i'm sure it is there. Linville is just a small community in Union Parish,LA.
Susan, The Liberty Cemetery is still there. It is in Linville community next door to Liberty Baptist Church, therefore you would not find it on a map. It is one of the older prettiest cemeteries in Union Parish. My husband and I attended a funeral there about one month ago. I would have to get directions to it from my neighbor, Louis Barr. That is where his family is buried--his parents, grandparents, great grandparents. I would say it is not far from Marion, Haile or Spencer. Marion, La. is on Hwy 143 North off Hwy 2. If you wish, I will get you directions. Please do not confuse it with Liberty Hill Cemetery near Hwy 33 between Marion & Farmerville. Mary Davis-Odom
Seeing a listing of all the Graham and Smith burials in the church yard of Alabama Presbyterian Church in Sibley, Louisiana. I understand that there are at least eleven burials for these surnames. I especially need information on Jane P. (Paisley?) Graham Graham (she was a Graham who married a Graham) and Jenette Graham Calhoun, wife of Angus Calhoun. Who were the parents of Jenette Graham and did she and Angus Calhoun have any children? The Grahams and Smiths moved to this area of Louisiana c 1854 from Coosa County, Alabama where they were members of the Carolina Presbyterian Church. Would like to correspond with any Graham or Smith family members who may be connected with these families who founded Alabama Presbyterian Church. I may have located a relative who is buried at Liberty Cemetery in LA. He is listed as a Civil War Soldier who is buried there. They give a town of Linville, LA. However, I have been unable to locate this cemetery. Nothing comes up through searches. Does anyone know if this cemetery is still there? Has it changed names? Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Susan

Hi, I send something to Gina Sherrard the other day and it came back. I thought I remembered now her posting a new email address the other day. Does anyone still have that email? I must have deleted it. Debi
Gina, I'm sorry but I accidentally deleted your new email address. I was going to send you something and when it came back I remembered! Could you please resend? Thanks, Debi
If I have made contact with anyone on the list. please contact me. I have lost all of my e-mail from Dec. until now. I would love to hear from you. I have also lost addresses. I know someone has a Mabry, Brantley, DeShazo, Poole, Gathright line from Union Parish. My husband unplugged the computer so all the mail has been lost for 6 months. Thanks Candace
Hello, everyone! Hope this finds all doing well. I really enjoyed the reunion and especially getting to meet each of you face-to-face. It was a real pleasure. The reunion was as I envisioned. I feel that those who couldn't attend missed a great opportunity to meet/greet/get to know/and exchange information. Everyone who attended should give Sue a big thank you for the work that she did. She put in some long hours getting the family database and registration information put together. Although Maradee couldn't be with us, she did an excellent job on the flyer that was mailed out to those not connected to the internet. Thanks, Sue and Maradee. Several asked about when the next reunion would occur. Anyone interested in organizing it will have my support. I, however, won't be able to plan one for 2000. Our Edmonds/Lee family will hold a big reunion celebrating the new millineum. My wife and I have planned the Edmonds (descendants of Mary Edmonds Tabor/Lee) since 1978. For the past 10 or so, we have had a themed reunion to add something different. For the past 2, we have actually prepared the main portion of the meal so that attendees wouldn't have to worry about what to bring. One less thing to get in their way of coming. Patricia McIntosh and I talked about possible timing for future reunions. On the first Saturday of June each year, the Bernice Historical Society sponsors a meal fundraiser and tour of local historical homes/buildings. She suggested that our group might want to combine with this event and meet in the morning, eat lunch (buy from the Society) and then do the afternoon tours. A good possibility and it might help both groups with attendance. The cemetery tour on Sunday afternoon ended up not being a popular event. Besides myself, Diane Wade and a couple from West Monroe showed up for the tour. Morelle Elliott came, but graciously bowed out when we shortened the list of cemeteries we would tour. I almost sent the others home, but changed my mind. Figured if they had traveled, we would roll. We enjoyed the trip. However, we'd probably not do one at a future reunion. The copier survived!!! The replacement cartridge for some reason just came apart once it was put in the copier. After getting it home where I could be a little braver about trying to get the cartridge out, I was able to pull it out with a little muscle. Didn't even have to "talk to it" if you know what I mean. On other things: All of my stuff is still in boxes. I have gotten them out of the car and to a room upstairs. For those that I promised copies, hang in there. I'll get them to you shortly. I don't believe any of you are aware that I am diabetic. Up until recently, my doctor and I were trying to control things with diet and exercise. Truthfully, I haven't been controlling either lately. During the week between the Shiloh anniversary and the reunion, I knew something was wrong. Extreme thirst, frequent trips to the outhouse, and finally some blurred vision clued me in. Looking back, it was pretty dumb of me not to head immediately home to my doctor, but I was determined to be at the reunion. God was merciful. After getting back and going to the doctor, I got the "bad" news. Blood sugar was at 569, cholesterol at 764, and most problematic was my triglycerides at 3,954. My doctor went ballistic and really tore into me. (I didn't tell him about the reunion--he wouldn't have understood). He was really concerned with those numbers that I'd have a stroke/heart attack. I kept telling him I was fine; he didn't see it that way. He started me on glucophage last Saturday and drew some more blood. Really concerned he forced me to cancel a fishing trip I had planned for this week and sent me to an endocrinologist (doctor of glands, etc.). She looked at the results, has ordered more blood work, said no out of town travel for now, and expressed her concern about pancreatitis. She wasn't persuaded by my story of "I don't feel bad". She started me on insulin; learned this morning how to give myself shots. The results are due back on Friday and I'll meet with her again then. The numbers have to come down, but really I do feel fine. But the doctors have scared me enough that I'll do just what they say. I also go to a dietary consultant to revamp my diet. Turns out the high carbohydrate diet they originally had me on is the wrong one for me. We'll be learning what low carbohydrate diets are all about. Sure am glad I got all them peas and cornbread in when I did!!! I tell you all this so that you will remember me in your prayers. Though my doctors (and their staffs) are really concerned, I feel that everything will be alright soon. Your prayers will help make it so. I hope to see and hear from many of you soon. Any information that you want, just let me know. I'll quickly have it on its way to you. Remember, as the song goes, we are family!!! Roy Austin
I am researching the surname Wayne, My GGGG Grandpa Sandy Wayne I was from Pike County Georgia. In the 1800's he moved to Marion Louisiana (Union Parish). It is unknown with whom he united in holy matrimony, It is known that six children were born. (3)Three Sons (A) gggrandpa Wilson Wayne (died 1930) married 2x's Mattie Rembert 2 sons Willie Wayne Sr. Sam Wayne Matilda Pleggs Ada Wayne - Talton Andy Wayne Annie Wayne Ida Wayne Lillie Mae Wayne Matilda Wayne Robertta Wayne William Wayne (b 10-6-1886 d 06-73) ggrandpa Louis Wayne (b 2-15-1906 d 10-18-68) (B) Sandy (Shack) Wayne II (C) George Wayne Sr. (3) Three daughters (D) Francis (Wayne) Simmons/Ollison (E) Lou (Wayne) Barfield (F) Mae (Wayne) Gardner ============================================ I have a book on the Wayne's in Union Parish Louisiana and surrounding areas from 1800 to current with more detailed informaton. What I'm trying to do is go back a lil further as I stated in the begining of this e-mail my GGGGgrandpa Sandy was from Pike County, Georgia, he moved to Marion with some other Wayne's and I've been advised that they are cousin's to my GGgrandpa they are John Wayne, Moses Wayne, King Wayne, Thomas Wayne I, & Fannie (Wayne) Young. I'm not for sure how these are cousins but I have more detailed info on them as well. I don't know why they moved or what trails that they took on their journey, but in information will be greatly appericated. Also in the back of my book on the Wayne's in Marion, Louisiona. it states: ----The Wayne Family in Greenwood, Louisiana and Shreveport, Louisiana are blood related to the Wayne Family in Marion, Louisiana, Little Rock, Arkansas and Warren, Arkansas. There were two brothers by the name of Tom and Jim Wayne. They left Marion, Louisiana together and moved to Greenwood, Louisiana. Later, Jim left Greenwood, Louisiana and moved to Springridge, Louisiana. Tom was blessed with three son and two daughters. Their names were Sandy Wayne, Will Wayne, Tom Wayne Jr, Bessie (Wayne) McKnight, and Lizzie (Wayne) McKnight. Tim Wayne was blessed with two sons. Their names were unavailable. Wilson Wayne (my ggg grandfather) called Tom and Jim, Hill and Andy. ----- Another thing in the book it mentions Goldsby's, it states: ----- The Goldsby's in Truxno, Louisiana, we were told, are Wayne's. Thir great great great grandfather was named Jim Wayne, he was sold during slavery. When he was sold, his name was changed to Jim Goldsby. We wer told that he was the brother of Sandy Wayne I. Sandy Way, III visited the Goldsby's regularly and told them they were our cousins. ----- The people that put this book togather were Family Members and Friends of the family, some are living but most of them are now deceased. I've been in contact w/ my cousins that helped put this book togather and right now I'm compling a list of questions to ask them. So if you need more info to help me out just let me know and i'll try to get it answered. Thanks for any help you can provide. sorry, that is astronomical
Sue, did you say that you would be adding families to Union Parish website? Isn't there a way each of us could put our families on. That seems like an astromical amount of work.
This is to let you know my new e-mail address. If you have sent me anything of importance in the last 24hrs. please resend it. Gina [email protected]
We had at least 60 people. I started off getting an exact count but we had so many walk-ins it was hard to keep track. Several of the people who had pre-registered did not make it so I think we had about 30 people pre registered and 30 people walk-in Saturday morning. I think it all went well and it was good to get to meet all the individuals that we have been corresponding with. I just got back and have not had time to unpack but I do know I have a lot of family group information to enter. While some of the walk-in registrations had already completed the full registration form other are going to mail them. As soon as I can get all of this entered I will get a search page set up and make this available from the Union web page. Sue Ruth Stout wrote: > Judy, > > The Reunion was GREAT! Judy, The Reunion was GREAT! I haven't posted a message about it yet because I returned home only yesterday and was called in to work today. We all owe a big round of thanks to Roy Austin and Sue Linder-Linsley for their hard work at getting this thing organized. Thanks also to all who did all the things behind the scenes that make a successful event. There were about 60 people there - I think. I was so busy connecting and getting to know some wonderful people that I didn't get a count. I am sure Sue will let us know exactly who was there. My most wonderful find was a copy of a photograph of one set of my great-grandparents. In additon I was able to get some good leads on several of my lines. My sister attended with me and was amazed at the information that was available. She was able to see what I had been doing for these past few years and is really beginning to develop an interest in helping me find those elusive ancestors. I sincerely hope that we will have another of these get togethers. I think just the getting to put faces with names was a wonderful asset. Together maybe we can break down some brick walls that we all encounter from time to time. Ruth Stout Leonard Mahon wrote: > Hey, How was the reunion? Lots of connections??
