I have your line. I also have another researcher who is doing this line and is a Post but her mailbox has been so full I haven't been able to send her the information she wanted. It just keeps bouncing back. Debra
Would anyone happen to know who the parents of John Wood married to Janetta Cole was. I have tried to connect him to Matthew to no avail and thought maybe he might be a nephew. Does anyone have any idea's how he fits into the Wood family? My second request is to a person on this list by the name of Hudson. I was told to contact you that we have the same line of Ham or leastways a chance of. Mine is a Ruth Ham married to a Thomas Martindale.

The John Stow Cemetery thanks to Sherry Gritzbaugh. Thanks, Sherry. This cemetery is not physically in Union Parish at the present time, but apparently was before 1873. I am still looking for a history of Union Parish that gives the changes in the boundaries and the dates. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows where to find one. Now I have to go pack - see you all again June 11th! Welcome to the list, Sharon. I hope someone can help with your quest. The migration pattern you mention - AL to LA to TX - ( and a lot of them came to AL from GA) is a common one among our ancestors on this list. Would this Wood family be related to the John Wood who was married to a Janetta? I have been trying to tie up loose ends with him but have been unable to so far. I could really use some help.

Smith September 29, 1912 I visited John Stow cemetery in November 2000. It had been restored and was freshly mowed. This is one of the earliest marked cemeteries in the area. I was in awe of the beauty which surrounded me. Still living are old crepe myrtle trees. The graveyard can only be described as elegant with a quiet dignity all its own. The monuments were obviously expensive ones. The old rock fence still stands. I was told that it was built by the family slaves. The cemetery was once located in Union Parish, Louisiana. Today it is located seven miles from Ruston in Lincoln Parish on Highway 33. It is not far from the Union Parish line. It is interesting that in 1837 Matthew and Hannah Wood with her brother, Daniel Payne, and his family moved to what was then known as Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. Daniel Payne, his son-in-law Needham M. Bryan, Col. Matthew Wood and his three son-in-laws: Judge John Taylor, Sheriff William Cleaton and Henry P. Anderson were all instrumental in forming Union Parish from Ouachita Parish in 1839. The records of Union Parish are replete with their names in this endeavor
Hello to All on List, I am a new subscriber and this is my first time to post to this list. Recently, I discovered some of my ancestors were in Union Parish, LA during the mid 1800s. Five new photos of the POWELL/COPLEN/SHAW/FOMBY family, thanks to Gaylon Powell. Gaylon got these goodies in just under the wire. We're leaving for a vacation in California Friday afternoon. We'll be back June 11th with teenage grandson in tow - oh, my!! Anyway, I don't think there will be any problems with the list or the archives in two weeks time, but I would appreciate it if you would hold off on any contributions until I get back. Thanks, all. Am trying to research the family of Peyton Randolph Kennedy and his heirs: Kennedys-Patterson-Tettleton-Albritton-Seale-Ham-Norris With all of these families should just about cover most of the Farmerville area. Have tried to send msg to Debi Burgess at: >>adventurers@worldnet.att.net<< however they have bounced. Also appreciate the note from Mary Davis-Odom. K.
In the book, Cemetery Inscriptions of Union Parish, LA, volume 3 by W. C. Nolan there is a list of those buried in the Farmerville Cemetery. The survey was made in 1977. You can purchase the book from J & W Enterprises at 318-929-1730. Can anyone tell me anything about the Pearson's buried in the Pearson Cemetery at Union Parish? Jim Lee
Hello Mary Anne Williams, If you send me a reply with a request for particular persons you are interested in at Mt Union Cemetery, I will reply promptly, otherwise, I'm in the middle of closing on a new house and moving right now...I hope to finish Mt. Union in the next few weeks... Jerry Ward
Karen, thank you for your response. For many months after I sent the TYPED Cemetery data and pictures of the sixteen graves you wrote that you had not set your scanner up but WOULD put them on the site soon. You NEVER did. I wish you had TOLD ME you DIDN'T WANT THEM. You promised to return the original pictures as soon as you had scanned them. Would you mind sending them back if they are no use to you? Perhaps some other coordinator would be able to use them. It took me from 1969 until the year 2000 to find this cemetery. I just know someone out there would also APPRECIATE THIS INFORMATION. Karen, you did acknowledge receipt of the data. Like it or not, Col. Matthew Wood was President of your first police jury. In 1829 Lincoln Parish and Union Parish, La. were part of Ouachita Territory. Matthew Wood GAVE the land to Union Parish, La. for the town of FARMERVILLE which IS in UNION PARISH. He may have a colorful background but he WAS the FIRST President of the UNION PARISH POLICE jury. Also, this cemetery was ONCE considered as UNION PARISH also. I wonder why all the Union Parish histories always include the names of the Wood and Feazel families? Both homesteads are now located on the edge of Union and Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. I appreciate your thoughts and thank you for letting me be a part of Rootsweb. Your work and contributions are appreciated. I feel as though I have intruded by sending you entirely too much data. I wish I HAD KNOWN how you felt. Feel free to DELETE any and ALL contributions I have made to YOUR site. I thought it was for those INTERESTED in UNION PARISH, LOUISIANA HISTORY. I have never claimed to be a professional nor a writer. I do claim to be interested in history. I still think the Stowe, Anderson, & Wood family played an important part in the building of Farmerville and Union Parish. Matthew Wood was also the father-in-law of Union Parish Sheriff William Carr and Union Parish Judge Taylor. Henry Anderson was one of the first school administrators of the parish. You can DELETE my FAMILY but you cannot CHANGE the past. I am hurt and disappointed by your response.
