    3. I am forwarding this message to the Union Parish mailing list - perhaps someone there will have information that can help you. Surprise, Stacy, I'm from Oklahoma, too. I live in Illinois now. I don't have any more access to Union Parish records than you do. Every thing you find on the Union Parish Archives was donated by a volunteer of one kind or another who came across things to share during their researches. Most of them are on this mailing list. You are welcome to join us. Just send an email to LAUNION-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word "subscribe" the body of the e-mail and nothing in the subject line. Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: Stacy Cooper To: aberizn1@gte.net Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2002 11:09 PM Subject: obituaries I am trying to locate information on a man named Young WHITE. He was born 1851 in Union Parish, Louisiana. He married a woman, California HENDRICK(S) in March 1873 in Union Parish. She was more commonly known as Callie I believe. Although, they had a daughter named Callie who may have been the one more known. Young died sometime between August and December of 1883. How would I go about finding an obituary on him? I am in Oklahoma and do not have access to many of the records you do. Thank goodness for the genweb! I've found tons of information through your page!

    2. Hi Karen. You may be able to help me on this one. I was told that my great grandfather, Sam (John) Foster, born about 1866 in Alabama, was full blood American Indian. (This has not been proven yet). While checking a site for Alabama (Native Americans in the Civil War), I came upon a name, J.C. RICHARDSON that was in I believe the 23rd or 28th division of Alabama, (I can't locate that site anymore) and he was listed as Co.I. Anyway, I have just recently located the graveyard that my great Uncle and his mother was buried. It was Smyrna Cementery in Union Parish. Within a chain enclosure of the graveyard, there was a J.C. RICHARDSON , JR. and Sr. buried in that enclosure. I strongly feel that there is a connection to my Indian relations and to this J.C. Richardson. Does anyone have any information on this Richardson. By the way, it was listed on his tombstone that he was a doctor. I would appreciate any and all help. Here is the information that I copied off the tombstones: Dr. J. C. Richardson 4-17-62 to 8-21-1883 J. C. Richardson 8-11-1875 43 years, 7 months, & 14 days One was a Sr. and the other a Jr. Thanking you in advance, Nancy

    3. I just vested the site and found many of our related families: Autrey, Tubbs, Colvin, Fuller, Green, Heard, Mitchell and possibly others. Thanks to everyone who worked on this project and made it available for us. Our Autrey family came with many others from Perry County, Alabama. Thanks Karen, for all the great work you do on the site. We are connected to the parish through our Absalom and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey family who came to this area in 1847 and settled here with their huge family. The area they settled in later became part of Lincoln Parish, but I'm also interested in learning more of Union Parish. The site for Union Parish is so informative, all the hard work shows. Thanks to everyone so shared their information. So many of us are not in the area and this information is sometimes the only way we have to "research" Union Parish. 2. Hello Karen. I am searching for my great grandfather, Sam (John) Foster, born about 1866 in Alabama. Sam was married to Dicy (Unknown) Foster. Sam and Dicy lived in Walnut Lane, Louisiana. I know that one of their children is buried in Smyrna Cementery. He is John Foster, born about 1892 in Union Parish, LA. I did find Dicy and her 4 children listed on the 1900 Census of Union Parish, LA. According to oral family history, both Sam and Dicy were full blooded American Indians. I am trying to find out who Sam's parents were. Any help is appreciated. Nancy

    1. Welcome new list member
    2. Karen Rice
    3. Hi everyone. I don't always catch it when we get a new list member, but this one just happens to be one of my many cousins, and I'm the one who told her to get on the list. Welcome to Tracy Jones. Tracy's G-G-G-G-grandfather, Richard Tubb Moore was brother to my G-G-grandfather, George Washington Moore. Tracy, you have several other cousins on this list. Gaylon Powell and Gloria & Troy Coplen are related to the Moores through the Copelands. Bobby Bayles is related through William McClelland Moore (another brother of RT and GW). There is at least one lady, if not two, on the list who I think are direct descendants of Richard Tubb Moore. Speak up ladies, and accept my apologies for not being able to remember your names. I vowed I wasn't going to work on my personal genealogy until we reached my goal of getting all the censuses on the archives, but we're getting darned close!! Alice Ogles has hers finished (was it 1880, Alice?), Bruce Odom has the 1840 finished, and Shawn Martin and I are 3 wards away from having the 1920 transcribed and 5 wards away from having it proofed. Shawn and her daughter and transcribing and proofing the 1870. The folks up at GenWeb just have to get busy and put our stuff on the Archives. But I got so bored with the census over the holidays, and so fascinated with a new genealogy program I got that I've spent considerable time getting most of my people re-entered (some of you may recall my genealogy program crashed shortly after I took over the Union Parish Archives, and my back-up file would not allow me to open it! What good is a back-up file you can't get into?), and had just started to work on the Moores when I got a communique from Tracy, who found us on the Archives. Well, I'm determined to get all my Moores and Cooks re-entered and start working on finding the current generations. I don't have much beyond the book "The Canon Creek Moores of Newberry Co, SC" which was published way back in 1961. Lord, that's the year my oldest son was born, and he's 40 now!! Have I really been doing genealogy that long? Roy Austin 1 - aren't the Moores and the Austins related? and 2 - remember the question you posed for all of us not too long ago? about who was going to fall heir to and love and treasure the mounds of data we've accumulated through the years? My youngest daughter recently volunteered for the job. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Anyway, I'll keep plugging away on the archives until we get all the censuses up (by then the 1930 will be available, but that can be somebody else's problem), but in the meantime, I'm going to get to work on my Cooks and Moores, while not neglecting my Mabrys and Copelands - so come on out of the woodwork, cousins, tell Tracy how you connect! Karen

    3. Tonight we have a Union Parish family reunion picture from Sue Linder-Linsley that has 80 people in it. It is from 1977, and Sue has about 20 or so of the people and their parents' names identified. She included a numeric location chart, an explanatory text file, and a numerical list, along with a request that anyone who can make an identification e-mail it to her. Thanks, Sue! Karen

And the reason I'm forwarding this to the list is because I want everyone on the list who has sent me corrections to know that I really do appreciate it. I've said many times, I'm no expert on the history of Union Parish, and I can easily get things wrong, and any help I receive to correct an error makes OUR website just that much better! 3. I'm replying to the list because others have asked about this cemetery. I e-mailed a friend whose Dad (I thought) had a connection to the Smyrna cemetery, but she was of no help. I have been to cemetery years ago and know where it is. I always thought it was connected to the Aulds Chapel community, but I don't know anybody from that community to ask. I'll keep inquiring and let you know.
