    1. Susan Annie Moore Coplen
    2. Richard Moore
    3. Hello Cousin Karen Mabry Rice. I am Richard Newton Moore, great grandson of the Richard Tubb Moore who lived just northwest of what is now :Bernice. I intended to write to you months ago about the picture of Richard T. Moore's home and the stump pulling operation but did not get around to it. I am moved to write now in response to cousin Nancy Williford's inquiry about the relationship of Susan Annie Moore Coplen and Richard Tubb Moore. I have a copy of a 80 page volume entitled: The Cannon Creek MOORES OF NEWBERRY S.C. 1767=1961 This book was prepared by Charles Clifton Moore and his sister Thelma Moore Harrell who are grandchildren of George Washington Moore who was a brother of my great-grandfather Richard Tubb Moore. On page 28 the marriages and children of George Washington Moore are listed and I quote: "GEORGE WASHINGTON MOORE...The son of William and Sarah Tubb Moore Born in Alabama 23 Jan. 1826 and died in Louisiana 25 Jan. 1881 Married first to: ELIZA ANN REED...Daughter of LEWIS and JANE REED Born 20 April 1825 died 18 July 1856 Three children born to her SUSAN ANNIE MOORE...Daughter born 3 Nov. 1849 died 24 April 1939 She was married to DEMETRIUS COPELAND GEORGE WASHINGTON MOORE Jr...Son born 17 March 1852 died 21 Feb. 1914 He was married to ANNIE HAMILTON THOMAS JEFFERSON MOORE...Son born 8 Nov. 1853 died 18 April 1926 Married 30 March 1876 to MARY ANN ISABELLA COVINGTON GEORGE WASHINGTON MOORE Sr. married a second time To **ADALLINE CLARK...Mrs. Harrell did not send tombstone dates for her Children by Adaline Clark " There are eight children listed plus a footnote about two others who died as infants. The eighth child listed was: "RICHARD TUBB MOORE...Son born 26 Feb. 1877 died 8 Sept. 1934 He married to CLARA LANE" No wonder Nancy finds the relationship of Susan Annie and Richard Tubb to be unclear since there were two Richard Tubb Moores a generation apart. Anyway, George Washington Moore, Sr. and Richard Tubb Moore were brothers and Richard Tubb Moore was Susan Annie Moore Coplen's Uncle. He was also an uncle of the Richard Tubb Moore born in 1877 who was a half brother to Susan Annie Moore Coplen! I hope this is helpful to you Nancy. My father visited his cousin Sudie Coplen in Oklahoma about 1908. She and her family were ranching out there at that time. Cousin Karen, I assume that you have a copy of "The Cannon Creek Moores". When I was a boy I knew Margaret Ann and Roy Mabry and I think they had an older brother whose name I can not recall. My great-grandfather provided the land for the Mt. Olive church and cemetery. The church was disbanded when the town of Bernice was established and the members all moved to the Baptist Church of Bernice. My grandmother Moore and her family were charter members of the Bernice church and Mt. Olive cemetery was inactivated. Mabry is the predominant name in the Mt. Olive cemetery and Roy or his brother or some Mabry hires someone to clean yearly and maintain the cemetery. I own the surrounding land and maintain a road and parking area so that everybody can access the cemetery. Maybe not everyone thinks that cemeteries are pretty, but I happen to think Mt. Olive is pretty where "the rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep". I imagine you have visited it, but if not, it is about a mile west of ! U. S. 167 on the north side of LA Hwy 2 Alt. There is a sign and it is only about 50 yards from Alt 2. There is also a black cemetery about a quarter mile west and also on the north side of LA 2 Alt. It is still in active use and was also established by my great-grandfather Richard T. Moore on his farm. I was born 3 March, 1926 so if you want to come see me, don't wait too long. I am sure I would enjoy; a personal visit with you. Your cousin, Dick

    3. Hi all, As of tonight all the pages on the Union Parish Archives have midi music files. They are all authentic old folk songs and hymns. I would value your input. Do you like it, or is it annoying? Either response won't offend me - I do these archives for you, and I don't want to put something up there that offends or hinders anyone. Karen

    2. Karen, I am a decendant of Susan Annie Moore, Lottress Eugene Coplen was my grandfather. What I'm trying to figure out is the relation of Susan A. Moore to Richard Tubb Moore. I printed the picture of the Richard Tubb Moore farm, but it will only print the left half of the pic. Is there any way you could put this pic. on the site in two parts? I can look at the right side, but it won't print out. Thanks, Nancy nwilliford@aol.com

    3. I finally have the photos all subdivided and under one main page again. The family photos are subdivided, A-I, J-Q, R-Z. All photos are alphabetized according to the husband's last name - had to pick something and stick with it for consistency. I've only checked the A-I section tonight and found four photos that didn't link up and a couple of instances of badly placed text. I'll probably be weeks working out the glitches, but never fear - I'm sure I didn't lose anybody. Comments welcome. Karen

    2. Karen Rice
    3. Hi, everyone - This message below was posted on the LA ARCHIVE list, and I'm embarassed to admit, I only know of one plantation in the Union Parish area that Bobby Bayles told us about. Surely there are others. Does anyone know their names? I told Stephanie I thought the name of the owner might be a valuable piece of genealogical information also, so if you know that, please include it. Send it to our Union Parish list, and I'll send it on to Stephanie, but also it will give me a chance to make up a list for our archives, too. 1. changes on photo pages & 1930 census
    2. Karen Rice
    3. Hi Gang, Slowly but surely, the changes on the photo pages are taking place. The following subpages under "New Photos" now work: "Parish-wide," "Community," "Church," and "School." I may have to take a break before I finish. The unidentifieds will all just be grouped together, and the cemetery photos will be broken down into sub-subpages by cemetery. I would like your input before I begin work on the family photo pages. I either want to create a sub-subpage for each family or each contributor. In some cases, this works out the same either way, but for some families there are 2 or 3 of us who contributed photos of the same family. Then there are individuals who contributed photos of more than one family. What does everyone think? We are definitely getting the 1930 census images. I am just waiting to hear from Harold Phillips, and then I will let you other five volunteers know where we stand. Thanks everyone, Karen

    3. I have the Spearsville class photos up and in perfect viewing condition now. You will notice there is a new category on the contents table - it is "New Photos," and that is where the new sub-page for photos is. Click on "School" and that will take you to the Spearsville photos. Right now "School" is the only sub-category that works. All other photos are still on the "Photographs," "Virtual Cemetery," and "Unidentified Photos" pages. In the coming weeks (now that I know what I'm doing - it took me all weekend to figure this out!) the old photos will be moving in groups to the "New Photos" page. As soon as they're all moved, the "New Photos," "Virtual Cemetery," and "Unidentified Photos" pages will disappear and everything will be under photographs. I hope you all like it better. Karen By the way, Thanks, Gina!! and if anyone else has any old Union Parish yearbook photos they want to share, send them in! I did recognize the name of one little 3rd grader as a contributer to the archives and a member of this list - Gene Barron.

    2. Karen Rice
    3. Hi Gang, Thanks for your wonderful and overwhelming response to last night's posting about the 1930 census. Harold Phillips has a credit at Blue Roses, also. We're going to combine mine and Harold's credits, and when we see if any more is needed, there are already five of you who have jumped up to contribute. Gina Sherrard has sent us twelve wonderful new photos, and I am trying to get them on the Archives. They are of sports teams and classes from 1949-50 at Spearsville school. I have finally found out how to put the picture and the text together on one page, and I am in the process of converting our entire photo page to this new formatt - we have over 150 photos you wonderful folks have contributed. They are going to be organized into subpages of Parish-wide, Community, Church, School, Cemetery, and Family photos. Be patient while it's under construction and I think you will like the organized format. Karen

    3. Karen, I never received anything like that so I really don't think it ever made it to the list but only was sent to you as the List Administrator. I received a similar message on a couple of the lists I manage but again, they didn't reach the lists, only me. It is amazing what and how much those filters actually catch.... I have a proposal to toss before you. Mary has the correction for the erroneous 1840 census done, and I still have a $21 credit with them. The 1930 census images will be available in April, and she wants $59 for them. Any one interested in putting up part of the $38 balance to have them for the Union Parish Archives? Karen

My grandmother told me but I've long forgotten. My grandfather, Orion Buckley Lee, was ten at the time the picture was taken. My guess is that it was located somewhere in the Shiloh/Mt. Patrick area as that is the area where he grew up. He was born in 1895; the picture taken in 1905 if I remember correctly. I have the hand bell that was used to start school and end lunch. It was a gift to me from my grandparents. Perhaps someone on the list will know for sure. Roy
