Debra Sorry, I can't find a marriage for them, however, the dates for 1874-1880 are missing from the book. And those would be your target dates. I also looked in Union County, Arkansas and didn't find them. Deb Debra Phillips wrote: > > Debbie, I have been going from court house to court house looking for my ancestor's marriage license. Thanks to Sarah Masling we have two neat new photos: one of Mary Norris Tucker and her son Woodrow, late 1800s? and China Grove School, around 1906-1914. Thanks to Frances Trimble we have a nice bio on Judge Trimble, who used to publish the Farmerville Gazette. Gregory, I have a Merrill Smith in Union Parish. He married Sally Gathright. We have a few of the children, but there are still some missing. They had initials in the 1870 census like J. T. and a D. Smith female. In the 1872 census no children are with Sally. She is living with a Caldonia Wright. This Smith line is very difficult. Good luck Candace
Hi Greggory and welcome to the list! You're not really a newbie to us, as you made a number of nice contributions to the archives way back before I even started being the Coordinator. I know Smith is a hard name to research - even when you find out it was originally Schmidt, as I did. In the last few months I have been doing a lot of transcribing and proofreading on the censuses, and one name I recall seeing consistently, but not with the commonality you expect in some areas - is Smith. There were even a couple on the 1820 and 1830 censuses of Ouachita Parish. The images and transcriptions on those have been sent in, but haven't appeared on line yet. We have all of Union Parish except the 1930, and we'll have that soon. Several of the transcriptions have been completed, and should start appearing soon. Dear Greg et al, I'm not sure I have posted my surnsames either. I too have Smith's in Union parish. My Smith's are James AJ and Rosiana Smith nee Cupp. Some other names I am researchign in the area are Easter and I do have a Roan connection but am not sure how it connects. My grandfather's sister (Eunice Easter) listed as her mother on her SS ap card as a Cupp-Roan. As far as I know her mother was Melvina Smith. Daughter of James AJ and Rosiana. This has proven to be a toughie so far, hope someone can connect. Linda in N/Cal. "Greggory E. Davies" <gedavies@iamerica.net> wrote: I am new to this list.
