Mulford, a native of Somerset in New York, a Presbyterian, son of Charles Mulfoed and Nancy Ross?, resident of this city for 11 years wishes to marry Maria Magdalena Bourg, Roman Catholic, an orphan depending on her sister, Angela, wife of Carlos Federic Mulford will swear that he mever interfere in her regligion or that of their children. In conformity with the royal decree dated at San Lorenzo Nov. 30, 1772, about marriages in the Anglo-American colony, Mulford asks the necessary permission. L.S. Says in responds: Marriages between persons of different religions are forbidden and even tho they are permitted by civil, as of Nov 30, 1792, it still has to be by dispensation. Even though he agrees to live with his intented wife and children the consent must be of a grave nature, but he sees no cause for the marriage accoeding to the Pope Benedict XIV. Pedro Bahan, alais Jeanty, states that there has been bapt. as free, a mulatto, his slave, named Thomas, son of Griffin, his slave, named Maria Luisa. Since this has been done without his klnowledge, Genti asks that Penalver order the entru corrected. Neither godfather nor godmother can declare the person free who is not their property. L.S. Spanish 1800, Jan 14 Penalver y Bishop of New Orleans, LA. Tomas Collins and Francesca Badon, godparentts are to explain why they stated that the baptized was free. Francisca Badon staed that when Tomas , son of Maria Luisa was baptised , she was the godmother but that she had not said he was free as she knew he was the son of a slave. Tomas Collins stated that he was the godfather of Maria Luisa's son who was named Tomey, but the priest did not say that he was free or slave but that it was set down that his mother was a slave. Some time after the baptism he heard it said to Mrs. King that he had been baptised as free. Collins signs as Thomas W.Collins.
