    1. [LASTJOHN-L] Drozin BECNEL/Emelie BROU Community Property
    2. Hi, I had typed this in answer to a relative's query and thought I might share it with the list. I do hope that this is of interest to someone. >From "The German Coast: Abstracts of the Civil Records of St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes 1804-1812" by Glenn R. Conrad. On page130 is found: No. 46 10-22-04 JUDICIAL SALE OF THE COMMUNITY PROPERTY OF THE LATE DROZIN BECNEL AND EMELIE BROU, HIS LATE WIFE. Advised that both Becnel and his wife had died of smallpox some months before, Andry was summoned by Jacques and Ambroise Brou and Pierre and Maximillien Becnel, all uncles of Cidamont Becnel, only child of Drozin Becnel and emelie Brou. Thje child was 22 months old. andry therefore went to the farm of Widow Becnel to proceed with the sale of the community property. antoine Tregre acted as acutioneer. Pierre Becnel, Tutor of the minor child was present. Also present were Jean-Jacques Haydel, Mathias Roussel and Pierre Marmillion. Buyers were Widow Becnel, Widow Brou, Rosalie Brou (Ambroise Brou, bondsman), Antoine Tregre (Pierre Marmillion, bondsman), ambroise Brou, Pierre Becnel, Maximillien Becnel, Jean-Jacques Troxler, Andre Himel, Henry Cornay (Maximillien Becnel, bondsman), Francois Haydel, Louis Neraud, Mathias Roussel, Etienne Reine, Jr., Alphonse Haydel. The following slaves were sold: Pierre (22), of the Caraba nation, virtually unskilled, sold to Ambroise Brou for $610. Constance (16), native of Louisiana, something of a domestic, bought by Anbroise Brou for his sister, Rosalie, for $700. Sale grossed $2,271. The child Cidamont had $763 coming from the estate of his grandfather Pierre Brou. The child also inherited his father's share of his father's estate which amounted to $1,057. Drozin Becnel's father was Pierre Becnel, Sr. Does anyone know if this line continues? Of was Cidamont BECNEL the last of this line? Your answers are welcomed. 1. [LASTJOHN-L] A Little Humor for You
    2. This is a message I got a while back off one of my discussion groups. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ~Michelle __________________________________________________________ This messsage is intended for everyone who thinks he/she is having a problem. Smart folks, please delete. Anytime you feel dumb, don't worry. Check out the following excerpts from a Wall Street Journal article by Jim Carlton, and you'll realize there are lots of people in the world far, far more idiotic than you could believe. 1. Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is. 2. AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in. 3. Another Compaq technician received a call from a man complaining that the system wouldn't read word processing files from his old diskettes. After trouble- shooting for magnets and heat failed to diagnose the problem, it was found that the customer labeled the diskettes then rolled them into the typewriter to type the labels. 4. Another AST customer was asked to send a copy of her defective diskettes. A few days later a letter arrived from the customer along with Xeroxed copies of the floppies. 5. A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The customer asked the tech to hold on, and was heard putting the phone down, getting up and crossing the room to close the door to his room. 6. Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "send" key. 7. Another Dell customer needed help setting up a new program, so a Dell tech suggested he go to the local Egghead. "Yeah, I got me a couple of friends, "the customer replied. When told Egghead was a software store, the man said, "Oh, I thought you meant for me to find a couple of geeks." 8. Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually. 9. A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and an invalid". The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses shouldn't be taken personally. 10. An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse. 11. Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in, and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked "What power switch?" 12. True story from a Novell NetWire SysOp: Caller: "Hello, is this Tech Support?" Tech : "Yes, it is. How may I help you?" Caller: "The cup holder on my PC is broken and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?" Tech : "I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?" Caller: "Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer." Tech : "Please excuse me if I seem a bit stumped, It's because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional, at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?" Caller: "It came with my computer, I don't know anything about a promotional. It just has '4X' on it." At this point the Tech Rep had to mute the caller, because he couldn't stand it. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder, and snapped it off the drive! **************************************************************** Terry D. 1. [LASTJOHN-L] Thompson/Brou/Bourgeois
    2. Emile L. Stieffel
    3. Hi Everyone, I have been researching my family line and have run into "the brick wall". By working backwards (the right way!) I have traced my GGG Grandparents Jean Mares (from France) and Emilia Thompson (from St. John the Baptist Parish, born abt 1821). The New Orleans Archdioceses Archives have searched the St John Baptist, ST Louis Cath, St Mary, St Patrick Church marriage records to no avail. The civil courthouses in St John and St Charles parishes marriage records have been searched to no avail. Therefore, trying to find Emilia Thompson's parents through her marriage certificate looks like a long shot. Now, by working forwards, (the wrong way). There was a Margueritte Emilie Thompson born in St John the Baptist Parish in 1821. (The Archdioceses have supplied a Baptismal certificate, naming Charles Thompson and Amelie Brou her parents!) SO, These are most probably her parents, but I need some proof! So I'm asking anyone on this list if they have any info on Charles Thompson or Amelie Brou. Maybe one of you can help me make this connection. I also have a marriage certificate from the Archives of Charles Thompson (son of Alexandre Thompson and Agnes Webster of Scotland) and Amelie Brou (daughter of Francois Brou and Marie Josephe Bourgeois) in 1820. Any and all help would be of great interest! -- Chef Emile L. Stieffel, custom@acadiacom.net Custom Catering, Inc. 4016 Red Cypress Dr., Harvey, LA 70058 http://www.acadiacom.net/custom

I'm relatively new at this so I am not completely familar with everything I have (yet). Note to Darlene Schnatz: I finally have my program up & running, with the restored gedcom file. Has my brother ever sent that to you? If not, would you like it. Take care all, Lee A. Scioneaux leecno@internetmci.com

    3. I would like to know if anyone else is researching the Conrad family of the German Coast area. My gggrandmother was Ursule Conrad who married Cyprien Vicknair on July 25, 1848 in St. John the Bapt. Parish. Ursule died sometime in 1867, and Cyprien and the children moved to Livingston Parish. My grandmother always referred to a "cousin Tia(?)" who lived in St. John the Baptist Parish but she never would explain how this "cousin" was related or anything else that could help me find her. My grandmother indicated that this "cousin" knew a lot about the history of the family. Any help would be appreciated. My e-mail address is Dedel@msn.com Catherine
