1. [LASTJOHN-L] Cute genealogy sayings
2. MFradella
3. "My hobby is genealogy, and I raise dust bunnies as pets" Thought you'd get a kick out of this saying. Someone forwarded a bunch of genealogy sayings to a list I'm on. Lots of cute ones. Here's a few more: - Heredity: Everyone believes in it until their children act like fools! - My family coat of arms ties at the back.....is that normal? - Always willing to share my ignorance - Genealogy: Tracing yourself back to better people - How can one ancestor cause so much TROUBLE ?? - I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the Juneflower - If only people came with pull-down menus and on-line help... - My ancestors must be in a witness protection program! - My family tree must have been used for firewood - Originality is the art of concealing your sources. - What do you mean my Birth Certificate expired? - My family tree has root rot! :) Michelle

3. Hey ya'll, Got a few minutes to read a great story? Check out Shirley Nichols webpage "Italians Grew spigots". You'll need to shut out the world, sit back and reminisce. Shirley is a great writer and you'll surely love her memories of 1930 St. Charles Parish. Great job, Shirley! 1. [LASTJOHN-L] For future reference
2. MFradella
3. I know that genealogy research slows down this time of year (at least it does for me, anyway). I plan on getting back on track as soon as the New Year begins. Here is a site that will help you understand and use an LDS Family History Center (the best resource for research). Try Ancestry Hometown Academy. BTW, I know that you all see me forward messages from Ancestry periodically. This is because Ancestry's site is the closest thing to having the records at the Salt Lake Family History Library online. The LDS Church doesn't have their records online yet (and probably won't for quite a while) and Ancestry has done a lot of research from the Library. In fact they published a book that lists all the resources at the LDS Library. This is a good site to use in your research. ~Michelle Fradella, Coordinator St. John The Baptist Parish, LAGenWeb ==== LASTJOHN Mailing List ====

2. MFradella
3. This has nothing to do with genealogy, but if you want to sit back and enjoy a wonderful Christmas website, go to: http://www.zoomnet.net/~mlramey/index.html It may take a few moments for your computer to load some of the graphics, but it is well worth the wait. 1. [LASTJOHN-L] Formula of 8870
2. DSchnatz
3. The following formula is the courtesy of the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants, WV. It was forwarded to me by RESSER409@aol.com. Formula of 8870: Determines date of ancestor's birth when one knows only the Death Date and age at Death: Death date = "A" Age at Death = "B" Constant Factor = "C" = 8870 Birth Date = "D" Express date as full year, month in 2 digits and date in two digits. Then the formula is: (A-B) - C = D or (A-B) - 8870 = D Example: Died 6 May 1889 18890506 at age 71 years, 7 months & 9 days. -710709 18179797 Formula -8870 18170927 Therefore ancestor born 1817, 9th month, 27th day -------------------------------------------------------------- ==== LASTJOHN Mailing List ====
