    3. LSUA Bolton Library has a collection on microfilm of Alexandria newspapers going back to 1820. There are some missing dates but there is a large number. There is the Louisiana Heralod, Louisiana Democrat, Louisiana Gazetter, The Red River Republican, The Planter's Intelligencer, The Town Talk, Louisiana Crescent (N. O.) along with Alexandria Town Talk, New Orleans Daily Picayune. If you research family names in newspapers read the classified ads as they contain a lot of valuable information. Also notices of wedding and deaths are not necessarily always in the same place in the papers if they are there at all. ----- Original Message ----- From: "pat r gilbert" <pgilbert10@juno.com> To: <LARAPIDE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 11, 2004 5:03 PM Subject: Re: [LARAPIDE] Re: Cheneyville Newspaper? > do you know if they have any papers from the 1850-1860 time frame? 3. Gene, Thank you for posting this information!!! I always wondered what newspapers were available and how early. Do you think that any still exist before 1820? Which one of these newspapers you listed would be the best for Cheneyville news back that early? My gg-grandparents, Henry William MUNSON & Ann Bynum PEARCE married in Rapides Parish, supposedly on May 12, 1817, and may have lived in Cheneyville briefly before relocating in Liberty Co. TX where their first child was born in Oct. of 1818. I believe their families still stayed in LA, and there may be mention of them in the newspaper. Thank you.
