Thanks, Houston, for the history info on Babb's Bridge. I do not decend from this BABB line that settled in Rapides Parish, but from the same group of Babbs that lived in Laurens County, SC and in Tennessee before my line moved on to Mississippi (about 1830) and about the same time that the below group moved on to Georgia. The below Babb family line (shown below) migrated from Laurens, SC to Georgia to Texas and back to Rapides Parish. Also note, the Babb's Bridge, Rapides Parish BABB family connects directly with Roxanne BABB Baden, wife of Fred BADEN, former long time Pineville Mayor. Fred Baden and I were neighbors and classmates at Pineville Grammar School back in the mid-1940's. We remain good friends today. And Fred's wife, Roxan, is a "Babb Cousin" of mine, too! I believe that this Joseph Babb, Sr. and Mary Roann Babb Family were the first BABBs to actually settle down near Glenmora in Rapides Parish. Within the text is only a mention that Babb's Bridge was located on Spring Creek 3 miles from Glenmora and its 3 merchants: Peninger, Dyer & Calhoon and about 200 residents moved that settlement to Glenmora after the Watkins Railroad was built to be nearer the track. NOTE: This would have been circa 1797. The Post Office in Glenmora was not established until 1902, so the name of Babb's Bridge may have continued to be used until that time. I did find Joseph Babb's military service and his widow applied for and received a Confederate Widow's Pension. He was paroled at Alexandria and shown to have been a resident of Rapides Parish in 1865. There may be some mention of Babb's Bridge in the Minutes of the Rapides Parish Police Jury, but not likely anything of its being established, unless some newspaper prior to 1850 have those minutes published in them. Babb may have built and he did maintain the bridge crossing Spring Creek, but could not be the founder of the settlement bearing his surname, for there were persons already settled in that area before he arrived.
