Does anyone know where Springhill and Belle Cheney LA might have been located in the mid to late 1800's. Carla DeVille Spring Hill is the designation of all of Police Jury Ward 4 in Southern Rapides Parish to include Forest Hill to the Allen Parish line, extending East to about Midway, which is inbetween LeCompte & Forest Hill, extending West to Union Hill, the remainder of Rapides Parish on that side is Ward 6 or Calcasieu Ward. Belle Chene' (French for Beautiful Oaks) is now in Western Evangeline Parish, formerly known as Baley Chaney Springs, located East of present-day Bayou Chicot and although bears today a French placename by CODIFIL-era cartographers, was actually named for an early Baptist Minister, Baley Chaney. Although being a native of South Carolina, it has never been proven that this Chaney family is kin to the founders of Cheneyville. Baley resided in the Natchez Province along with Rev. Joseph Willis. Baley was living on the Catahoula Prairie in 1799, was later in the area of Bayou Chicot in what was then St. Landry, but now Evangeline.
