?The Winn Genealogical & Historical Association invites you to join them for a special day this Saturday, March 10th. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. the group will meet at the Clerk of Court's office for a special time of research graciously permitted by Clerk of Court Donald Kelley. Beginners are encouraged to come take advantage of this opportunity for "hands-on" help from the other members. The group will break for lunch at noon, and will meet again at 1 p.m. in the society meeting rooms on the second floor of the Winn Parish Health Unit on West Main Street in Winnfield for a business meeting and program. Guest speaker for the program beginning at 2 p.m. will be Thomas Ayers of Jonesboro, award-winning writer and veteran investigative reporter. Mr. Ayers has written numerous feature and historical articles for the Dallas Times Herald, the Dallas Morning News and the Civil War Times quarterly, "Columbiad". He has won awards from the Associated Press and United Press International among others, and is the author of "That's Not In My American History Book: A Compilation of Little Known Events and Forgotten Heroes", and "Dark and Bloody Ground: The Battle of Mansfield and the Forgotten Civil War in Louisiana". Just released by Taylor Publishing in February, "Dark and Bloody Ground" chronicles one of the strangest and most ignoble defeats suffered by Union forces, the ill-fated Red River Campaign and the Battle of Mansfield. This latest book will be the topic of Mr. Ayers ' presentation this Saturday. Come join us for a great day!! Peggy Beaubouef Vice President, WPGHA
