Maybe it is a surname. This link http://www.lsu.edu/lsupress/catalog/fall2000/fall2000/klier.html is about a book of Thèodore Pavie' journey to Louisiana and Texas. I also see a reference that pavies are something edible. Could that be your meaning? That's at : http://www.inra.fr/Internet/Produits/dpenv/scienceauquotidien/ficheshtml/90C .htm. (Personally, I think it's some variety of peach.) It could also be a reference to a location. Pavia is a province in Italy. In 1525 the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V defeated the French under Francis I. I see it occasionally referred to as "Pavies." Let me know if it helps. I didn't know your original reference.
