VA has made it easier and faster for the public to get answers about family history. The agency has put on the Web 3.2 million records for veterans buried at 120 national cemeteries since the Civil War. The VA's Nationwide Gravesite Locator, at http://www.cem.va.gov, also has records for some state veterans cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery since 1999. Al

Van Vranken EMAIL: gb234@bresnan.net URL: http://www.geocities.com/gvanvranken QRYTEXT: MORGAN I am looking for any information on relatives of mine that lived in Rapides. Marshall Monroe Morgan is my GG uncle. He lived there and is buried there also. His daughter listed his place of burial as "Clearwater, Rapides, Louisiana" I am trying to find out if his father is buried at the same place. His father was Herman B. Morgan (1860- abt 1935) in 1930 Marshall was living in Avoyelles with his wife and two step children, his father and brother. I would like to know if anyone can help me with this family. I would eventually like to order a copy of Herman Morgan's death certificate, but I cannot find out when or where he died except that it was around 1935 and my grandmother thought is was in Bunkie Avoyelles.

He later moved to Oklahoma and was married to Mattie Bell Carr. The reason I think there is a connection is because the person (Christopher Michael MANGUS ) shows up in the LDS files on a research and I cannot connect anyone to the Mangus family and since in your reply the name is McManus. Have nothing on John Thomas Tison's family except on his children and grandchildren...I was married to a Grandson of John and Mattie Tison, and since they have all passed...I have very little to go on.. thanks, Maquetia Allene Youngblood Tison Wilson
You may find yourself paying numerous taxes in the form of tolls as you travel place to place to do your research if the House transportation Bill HR3550 passes. This Bill authorizes States to turn existing Interstate and US Highways into toll roads. The Senate has already passed their version of this Bill. There is still time to contact your Representatives to voice your opposition. Rep. Mark Kennedy (R-MN) has an amendment that limits tolls to newly constructed lanes with the stipulation that the toll would end when the lane is paid for. These tolls will affect you in other ways also: consider it takes two trucks for every ingredient in your food products, 20 trucks to deliver your shirt or blouse, and over 2000 trucks to deliver your new vehicle to your dealer! These expenses will be passed on to the consumer. Call your Senators and Representatives NOW -- offices open at 9 am EST -- main switchboard number is 202-224-3121 or visit www.firstgov.gov to get contact information.

You might try the Southwest Louisiana books by Father Hebert. I have found quite a lot there about Rapides parish, even if the parties were/are not Catholic. Often he lists data found in surrounding courthouses on wills, estates or property. I think the LDS has the books/films or CD's if you do not live in LA. Patricia Snyder Shadancer@aol.com

I've looked on the FTM's Marriage Index: LA 1718-1925 & cannot locate it. Actually, there's very few marriages before the Civil War on it for Rapides Parish. According to the USGENWEB page for Rapides Parish, Rapides was split from St. Landry Parish. I looked there too. Their first child was born in late 1837, so I'm assuming they were married prior to that. Most of their children settled in Beauregard & Calcasieu Parishes. Thanks!

Hi List Sorry but my brain must be on vacation! Mrs J W Hilburn was living in RAPIDES Parish NOT Caddo at the time of her mother's death. It was her sister who was living in Caddo. If someone has access to the 1930 Rapides Parish census I would appreciate a look up for J W Hilburn. Thanks ever so much Marguerite

Blanche was married to a Krudop. Daddy was the baby and Aunt Blanche was about two years older. Krudop was a doctor and would have been Aunt Blanche's first husband. She and second husband lived in Alabama and had a daughter. She might have been an only child and according to my sister from our Dad's first marriage she too is deceased. We really do need to get together. We travel on business a great deal but surely we can arrange to meet and compare notes. Would love to hear from you. Call and leave message at 1-800-569-9526.
