    3. I know of none that were Unionists during the Civil War or that were opposed to the Confederate war effort. John Houston Strother, Sr. father was Alexander Asaria Strother, Sr. (1829-1864). Alexander Strother, Sr. was hung and shot in his front yard during the Civil War, May 11, 1864, by union soldiers who were stealing horses. His wife and son John were witnesses to the tragedy and cut him down. Alexander Strother married Martha "Patsy" Coker (1830-1899). Dr. Greene Strother wrote me, in 1981, concerning Alexander and Patsy: "My father's father was Alexander. His wife, my grandmother, was Aunt Patsy Coker. I remember her as a quite little women. He was killed in the Civil War times." Dr. Strother also stated that "Patsy Coker was a granddaughter of Rev. Joseph Willis by his second wife." John Strother (1852-1926) in 1865, became a coachman for the first carpetbagger governor of Louisiana. Richard Strother, III, was in the CSA from Nov. to Dec., 1862 and then deserted Dec. 9, 1862. He was later shot soon after having the child by Lydia Willis. He and Lydia could not marry, as he was a hunted man. Lydia later married Henry Stanley. Matilda later married Ruben Fee. Lydia also lost a brother, Crawford Willis, in 1862 at Shiloh in the Civil War. Richard Strother, III joined a group of Jayhawkers (probably the large group based in Oberlin, Louisiana at the time). He would slip into see relatives (although he was not really safe when around some of them) and to see Lydia. Margie's dwelling # is 104, family #112. Something is written next to Margie's name but I cannot read it. I can scan the census page and send it to you. Let me know. DeAnn

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Akin, Maddox, Hatchell, Roux Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WEB.2ACI/474 Message Board Post: There is a Margie Roberts age 26, listed in the 1930 Federal census of Rapides Parish, LA. She is listed as a daughter with Pinkney P. Akin as head of household. Her occupation was telephone operator. Does anyone know who Margie was? She is a complete mystery to me. Pinkney was my grandfather, although I never new him. He died several years before I was born. Also listed are Edward Akin & Louis Gilbert Akin (Uncles) and Percy Akin (my father). Dad or any other family member never mentioned Margie. I know that Pinkney's wife died three years earlier in 1927, so maybe Margie was a housekeeper or babysitter since Uncle LG was only 5 years old at the time. Her being listed as a daughter could have been a mistake on the census taker's part.....maybe?? Jacques Aiken

    3. Would appreciate any information on Matthew Bushnell and Roseanna Charbonneau; lived around Bunkie and Cheneyville and LeCompte, in mid 1800s. A brother named Lawrence married into the Brown family. Am particularly interested in death dates, possible burial places. Matthew Bushnell married Hyacinthe Aucoin after Roseanna's death, and had other children. Any info is acceptable, even if someone has already answered. Thanks. Ethel
