    3. Gene, Thank you for posting this information!!! I always wondered what newspapers were available and how early. Do you think that any still exist before 1820? Which one of these newspapers you listed would be the best for Cheneyville news back that early? My gg-grandparents, Henry William MUNSON & Ann Bynum PEARCE married in Rapides Parish, supposedly on May 12, 1817, and may have lived in Cheneyville briefly before relocating in Liberty Co. TX where their first child was born in Oct. of 1818. I believe their families still stayed in LA, and there may be mention of them in the newspaper. Thank you. 3. LSUA Bolton Library has a collection on microfilm of Alexandria newspapers going back to 1820. There are some missing dates but there is a large number. There is the Louisiana Heralod, Louisiana Democrat, Louisiana Gazetter, The Red River Republican, The Planter's Intelligencer, The Town Talk, Louisiana Crescent (N. I'd ask the librarians at the Rapides Parish Library (http://www.rpl.org) what they know. The old Alexandria papers (the old Weekly Town Talk, and the Alexandria Daily Town Talk) are on microfilm at the main branch of the Rapides Parish Library on Washington Street downtown. The Town Talk is online at http://www.thetowntalk.com/ I don't know much about the Bunkie Record, but I have this webpage bookmarked http://www.geocities.com/bunkierecord/ I'm not sure if it's their official webpage, but it's the only one I've seen. Another close newspaper to Bunkie is the Opelousas Daily World at http://www.dailyworld.com/ I know these web pages won't help with reading old newspapers, but at least they have the contact information to find out more.

    3. Stop the presses, I knew it was to good to be true, the Caddo tribe in La. has now changed their mind, I guess we have been misinformed, now they say our Anne is not the right one, and we have to have lived among the tribal families to enroll, but the genealogy I gave her the other day matched up perfectly, so I guess we can fill out the paper work and try, but enrollment is not likely if we did not grow upin the tribe, you casn call 318-472-8680 which is the number to the chief of that tribe, and maybe he can explain it to you better, I am sorry.... This was really exciting for me and now we are back to square one, unless anyone else has any ideas, I am all ears. Tammy Hayes

Davies; Candy Estrada; charlene; Carol O'Quinn; BeFatnSassy@wmconnect.com Subject: {not a subscriber} Anne of the Caddo enrollment I am writing this to encourage anyone who is descendant from Anne of the Caddo who married Jean Baptiste Brevel to contact Sherri @ 318-472-1007 to start your enrollment, right now the Caddo Adai Tribe is only a state reconized tribe only reconized by La. but they are trying to get Federally reconized, this is important because right now only the Indians who left their home lands and went to Okla. are Federally reconized, we are none the less equal to them, and deserve this title, it would be a big step for the tribe and everyone's heritage. I just found out today that Anne of the Caddo is a member of the Caddo Adai Tribe in La. there is a lot of genealogy which will come with this enrollment as well as something to pass down to our kids and grandkids. The only difference between us and the Caddo tribe in Okla. is that they willingly left their home land to go to Okla. while our tribe escaped and hid out in the woods, Texas or anywhere they could until it was safe to return ! home to their home lands. Our Caddo's were there long before any one came to La. to settle it. So eurge all of you to enrol your kids, grandkids, and pass this # along to anyon you might know who is descendant from this lady. Sherri has info on Anne's family such as her parents and siblings, I think this is a wonderful thing and I have been waiting and searching for a long time for this and I know there are a lot of others who are also wanting this info, so please pass it on. 3. Marguerite, I don't believe Father Hebert's CD covers Rapids Parish. He has 41-42 Volumes of books, combined in one CD. He and many volunteers recorded Church and Court house births, baptisms, marriages, and deaths in Sourhwest Louisiana called the "blue books" and In Southeast Louisiana called the "red books. The Red books were done in 12 volumes. They are a treasure to researchers. Many libraries have them. And they can be ordered. The CD is wonderful, costs over $300. However the books cover only Southwest and southeast Louisiana. We purchased the CD in our library, and have 12 blue volumes, and are ordering 2 per year. The books cost around 42 dollars. Ethel.
