I have nearly 3,000 associated names that I am preparing to present in Pineville, La. at the Mertens Reunion at Kees Park Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000. I'd love to have more connections to local people. 3. >From Alexandria Town Talk, 27 Sept 1920 DEATHS LAWRENCE - At the family residence in Pineville, La., Sept. 26, 1920 at 6 o'clock a. m., Napoleon Lawrence, aged 68 years. The deceased had been in ill health for the past several months, but had only been confined to his home for three weeks. The funeral took place this morning at 10 o'clock, the procession leaving the family residence at that hour, moved to Rapides cemetery, where his interment was made. The funeral was under the direction of Hixson Bros. Services were conducted by Rev.W. S. Slack. "Nap" Lawrence, as he was familiarly known, was born and raised in the town of Pineville, and resided there all of his life. When quite a young man he engaged in the stock and butcher business, which vocation he followed continuously until his last illness. He was the last survivor of the butchers who for years were conspicuous figures in the market house in the old city hall, those having previously crossed the dark river, being Jacob Irving,Sr., Louis Abadie, Steve Bassano, L. Sackman, Jack Estrader, John Irving, John Milhas, Jacob Irving, Jr., and others. Mr. Lawrence was a good man, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand and do a kind act to his fellow man. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Isabelle Ida Hopkins, daughter of the late Joseph Hopkins and Ann Lawrence. To this union three children were born, one of them, Edwin Lawrence, having preceded his father to the grave several years since. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. The son is Mr. A. V. Lawrence and the daughter is Mrs. Jos. F. Ball, both residing in Pineville. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Josephine Graham of this city. To the bereaved wife, son, daughter and sister, Town Talk extends sincere sympathy. From the Alexandria Daily Town Talk, 24 October 1974 Mrs. Savoy, 85 Mrs. Anna Lawrence Savoy, 85, of Alexandria, died at 1:15 a.m. today at her residence. She is survived by two sons, Edgar L. Savoy of Pineville and E. Oswald Savoy on Alexandria; six grand-children and 15 great-grand-children. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Hixon Bros. Alexandria. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Note: F & M Washington Lawrence & Mary Elizabeth Moseley; b. 10 Jan 1889; m. Edgar Savoy 7 Feb 1907.
