Hello Martha, Please excuse me for barging in on your message to Harold. I am in need of some information on the 1900 census for Orleans Parish. Have been trying to find out more information on Charles Heath and Rosa (Rose) Heath. I believe both are from England. In 1890 they resided on Jackson avenue believe 2nd ward. Military papers say 2613 and 2509 Jackson Avenue. Also interested in a Emma Heath in lst ward. Need place of birth, parents names etc. whatever is available. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have the 1900 Census for Rapides Parish, La., ? I need a look-up. Harold Gosnell
I am posting this for Dr. Tommy Johnson, a cousin and also for me. He sent me this message and I'm putting it before the group.... i hope someone has some information that will help.... Thanks... kaite.. ============== Note from Tommy: I have recently discovered that a Francis Lewis migrated to GA. He was the youngest son of John Lewis and Catherine Faultleroy. My maternal grandfather was Andrew Francis Lewis, 2nd son of William Wiley Lewis and Martha Ann McIlwain Wiley was the second son of Charles Lewis born in GA and Nancy Riley born in NC. In my copy of Lewises, Meriwethers and their Kin, all it states that Francis Lewis was born in VA in 1755 and had sons and daughters--the book does not list them. It states that many of his descendants moved to AL and one descendant was the Hon. Dixon Lewis of the U.S. Senate. Has anyone done research on Francis and could he have had a son James who was the father of my g-g grandfather Charles? Since Charles named his oldest son James Innis or Ennis by naming patterns I am convinced that my breakthrough would be Charles son of James son of Francis son of John son of Col. Robert Lewis and Jane Meriwether--how about that for "gut feeling" genealogy.
Barbara Moon of Winnfield will be the featured speaker at this Saturday's meeting of the Winn Parish Genealogical & Historical Association. Ms. Moon will be sharing some of the historical facets of the book "Golddigger - the Outrageous Life and Times of Peggy Hopkins Joyce" by Constance Rosenblum. Peggy Hopkins Joyce was the wife of James Stanley Joyce, son of William T. Joyce, founder of Tremont Lumber Company. Ms. Joyce was at one time a silent screen movie actress and a member of the Zigfield Follies. It has been rumored that she spent a brief time in Winnfield and was remembered as a rather 'spectacular' character! The Joyce family forever left its mark on Winn Parish in a variety of ways. Their sawmill operation, Tremont Lumber Co., moved from Rochelle, LA to the area of the parish now known as Joyce in the late 1940's. David Gage Joyce, brother of James Stanley, ran this operation until his death. He was also the namesake of the Joyce airport at Tannehill. James Stanley Joyce was president of Tremont & Gulf Railway Co., a major railroad present in Winn Parish since the very early 1900s. A business meeting will be held at 1 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Officers for the coming year will be discussed. Ms. Moon's presentation will begin at 2 p.m. in the WPGHA offices on the second floor of the Winn Parish Health Unit. The public is cordially invited.
Hi, I just joined this list. I am researching my Harrington ancestors. I have very little information on them. And I do mean very little <g> My great grandfather was Edward Harrington wife may have been named Mary. My grandfather was Eugene Joseph Harrington m. Anna Tomine Nielsen My mother, Eugenia Minnie Harrington, was born in 1906 so I am guessing they got married in 1905 or there abouts. I have postcards that my mother saved with address on them or at least the city <s> they are Eugenia Harrington --Alexandria, LA--1921 also 215 5th st. 192? 508 South First Street, Monroe LA 1923 and 502 S. I found two listings for countys with monroe) Can anyone give me any ideas of where to look for information. grandma I have well documented but grandpa Harrington is a mystery. He died before I was a twinkle in my moms eye. grandma said that he was a sea captain, Irish, and sailed from New Orleans. thanks for any help Sheila

Can anyone give me information on the following Aertker family? I received this information from a contact I made through Ancestry.com. This is a part of a data base and the person who sent it has no dates nor places for this family. I apologize since I normally would ignore such information but I am getting pretty desparate for Aertker information (the family I am looking for was in Rapides Parish last part of 1800s and moved to California). Walter Patrick Aertker married Betty Brooks. Their children: Nancy Brooks married John H. Downs. Frances Calvert married Daniel Barbato Wlater Patrick married Gayle Crotty Carol Elizabeth married Robert William Lord Mary Locksley married Tabb Neblett Catherine Louise married Sidney Minturn Leach Emily Gerald Robet Christopher Richard Paul
