    1. [LARAPIDE] MARLER
    2. Hey List Members, I just conducted a Title Search on some land Homesteaded by Don MARLER (not Dogwood Press author, writer and publisher) in 1904 and it still remains nearly in it's entirety, except for electrical highline Right of Ways, roads, etc. in ownership of a MARLER. The point I would like to discuss... Don sold his tract of land to Thomas J. MARLER, who was a single man in 1909. When T.J. sold this land in 1963, he was shown as the widower of Francis E. MILLER. But in 1950, he gave a Right of Way and he was shown as T.J. MARLER, single man, never having been married... Was this the same man ? Or another by the same name ? There was no Probate or Affidavit of Death found of record in Rapides for Francis (Frances) Ellen MILLER MARLER. The marriage index shows T.J. MARLER and Fannie E. MILLER received a marriage license in 1915, but with no complete date shown on the index makes me question whether or not the ceremony was performed and the license returned for filing. T.J. & Francis E. are buried side by side in Burrough Cemetery, so my guess would be that they were married. Then why would T.J. sign something stating that he had never been married ? Did Thomas J. MARLER and Frances Ellen MILLER have any children ? T.J. Homesteaded the Tract below Don and kept that tract longer. I eventually see about 5 other MARLER's showing ownership interest in that property by them being the ones sign to give Right of Ways, etc. over that property. Can Anyone Fill Me In ? Thanks, Houston

    1. [LARAPIDE] Romelzy Willis' 20 children
    2. Seeking additional information (such as date of deaths, marriages, etc.) on Romelzy Willis' 20 children. Contact: Randy Willis [email protected] Five generations from Rev. Joseph Willis to Romelzy Willis' 20 Children 1) Rev Joseph Willis (b. ca. 1758; d. Sept. 14, 1854) had a son named William Willis ( b. Jan. 6, 1804; d. Nov. 24, 1881) who is buried at Humble Cemetery - Elizabeth, Louisiana; he married Rhoda Strother. 2) William Willis had a son named Joseph "Joe" Willis (b. Apr. 5, 1847; d. Dec. 3, 1912), he married Annie/Anna Ray (b. Sept. 23, 1834; d. Dec. 23, 1880). 3) This Joseph "Joe" Willis had a son named Romelzy Willis (b. Aug. 25, 1874; d. Feb. 24, 1929). He married his first wife, Emma Thompson (b. Jul. 31, 1878; d. Feb. 2, 1914) and later married a second wife, Nettie Dyer. 4) Romelzy is listed in the 1880 Rapides Parish, Louisiana Census as age 5 and as a child of Joseph and Annie Willis (born in P/Rhumatism, La. ?). Romelzy's siblings listed in the same census are: Arcilla (age 13) , Olive (age 11), Tramelia (age 9), and Lucinda (age 3). The spellings on these names are probably wrong. I interviewed Rev. Elmer Perkins, from De Ridder, Louisiana, in 1980. He died the next year at age 77. He said William William had a son named Joe Willis and Joe had a son named Romelzy Willis. Rev. Perkins said Romelzy had two sisters, he could remember: Olive and Drucilla. On May 18, 1981 I received a letter from Dovie Dyer Strother. I quote from that letter: "My name is Dovie Dyer Strother. My parents were Mach Dyer and Lillie Mae Willis, both deceased...My mothers parents were Romelzy Willis and Emmie Thompson Willis....My mothers grandfather was Joe Willis and her grandmothers name was Annie..." Dovie Dyer Strother said that Romelzy had three sisters named Amelia or Bess Willis who married Reben Cloud, Arisley Willis who married John Coker and Olive Willis who married Harvey Odom. According to Dovie Dyer 's letter, Romelzy Willis had two wives; the first wife was Emma/Emmie Thompson and the second wife was Nettie Dyer. 5) Romelzy Willis and Emma/Emmie Thompson Willis' 13 children: Pickney Willis (b. Jan. 14, 1892) Fenwick Willis (b. Sept. 7, 1893) Lillie Mae Willis (b. Jun. 29, 1895; married Mach Dyer) Dovie Willis (b. Jul. 10, 1897) Lonzy Willis (b. Oct. 10, 1898) McKinley Willis (b. Feb. 28, 1901) Dewey Willis (b. May 20, 1903) Nellie Willis (b. Oct. 7, 1905; married a West) Mertie Willis (b. Oct. 16, 1907; married a West) Twins Vertie Willis (b. Oct. 16, 1907' married a Cloud) Twins Bessie Willis (b. Apr. 10, 1910; married a Willis) Stacy Willis (b. Jan. 28, 1912; married a Doyle) Willie Willis (b. Feb. 3, 1914) Romelzy Willis and Nettie Dyer Willis' 7 children: Rhoda Willis (married a Johnson) (b. August 16, 1915; d. 1980) Ivy Willis (b. July 22, 1917; d. 1987) Irene Willis (married a Brockenbush?) (b. Feb. 8, 1919) James Calvin or J.C. Willis (b. Aug. 17, 1921; d. 1961) Rev. Grover C. Willis (b. Oct. 13, 1902; d. May 22, 1979). He married Vicie (b. April 1, 1914) Olive Willis (Frank Weldon) (b. Mar. 3, 1925) Pharoah or Buddy Willis (b. Feb. 2, 1927; d. 1986)

    1. [LARAPIDE] The Martins of Sabine Territory
    2. Pastor Buddy Martin
    3. Greetings, I am looking for anyone interested in the genealogy of the William/Elizabeth Martin family of Central Louisiana. William and his wife are buried at Mitchell Cemetary in Anacoco, La. William was a Revolutionary soldier. The data base I have includes a great many of the pioneer families of the Sabine Territory. What I would like is to find are others who are researching this area and to invite them to a forum that is set up for exchanging information on this family group. We presently have 35 members but would like to see a great many more. We have a special need for Martin descendants from Sabine, Vernon, and Natchitoches Parish to join in. If anyone is interested you can contact me at <[email protected]>. Or you can subscribe to the Martin-Family forum at: http://www.egroups.com/group/martin-family I also have a data base entitled 'Martins of Sabine Territory at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi- bin/igm.cgi?db=buddybear You can view to data base to see if any of your kin are registered. 1. Willis/Perkins Connnections
    2. Contact: Randy Willis [email protected] I need input/help in locating a Lucinda Willis Perkins and any other Willis/Perkins relationships. Dr. Greene Strother told me that it was family tradition, in has family, that Rev. Joseph Willis first came to Louisiana searching for a Willis Perkins. There is a Willis Perkins listed (household 641) in the 1850 Rapides Parish Census (age 60), born in South Carolina. Other early Perkins, found in 1850 Rapides Parish and born in South Carolina are: Nancy (age 60), Elizabeth (age55), Isaac (age 61), Mary (age 53), Lewis (age 57), Margaret (age 48), Louis (age 24), and Mary Ann (age 18). The point of this is that this is an extremely large number of Perkins (for this period of time located in one parish) from the same state, South Carolina. A Willis Perkins is also listed as a member of Occupy Church (1843) at the same time Rev. Joseph's was pastor there. The early Louisiana Willis/Perkins connections have not been fully explored. Perhaps this will lead to Lucinda Willis Perkins. An early Louisiana Baptist Historian (1810) wrote that the Perkins came to Bayou Chicot, in 1805, with Rev. Joseph Willis. Other Willis/Perkins, 1850 Rapides Parish, relationships are Lemuel Willis (1812) (household 657) married Emeline/Eveline Perkins. The Lucinda West (household 649) (age 19 and married to William West) listed in the 1850 census is probably the daughter of Sally Willis. Sally is listed in the same household (age 48). In 1850 (household 301), Eliza Ann Perkins (age 38), list a 14 year old daughter named Lucinda. In 1859 (household 578), Olive Perkins (age 48), list a 15 year old daughter named Lucinda.

    2. Linda and Jerry, According to the book Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units, 1861 - 1865 by Arthur W. Bergeron, Jr., the Crescent Regiment was the 24th Regiment of the Infantry. Colonels were: Marshall Smith (resigned), George McPheeters (Killed) and Abel Bosworth Lt. Colonels were: George McPheeters (promoted) and George Soule Majors were: Abel Bosworth (promoted) and Myford McDougall There were companies A-L with Company L being the Alexandria Rifles. However, Co. L men were transferred to the 16th LA Regiment in July 1862. The 24th Regiment (Crescent Regiment) is discussed on pages 130-132 of the referrenced book. There is other info. about the reg. on these pages. As I scanned the info., it looks like they may have marched with General Alfred Mouton. Hope this helps. This book has helped me with my research. It was published by the Louisiana State University Press in 1989. 2. Although Stephen was turned down for his pension, he would still have to have filed the applications. Since he had to file the 2nd time, that would mean he and his affiants told more about himself in the 2nd application. Confederate officers, particularly those in small local regiments were not the best at getting the paperwork completed and to their command stations. Order his pension from the La. State Archives in Baton Rouge. You can call 504-922-1216 and place your order for STEPHEN W. BELGARD. CP1.92.000000 25.000000 12.000000 BELGARD, STEPHEN W. and they will bill you. Costs are $5-$15 depending on the amount of copies. The more copies, usually the more info. Your file contains 12 or 25 pages, so it will be a higher amount. They can tell you the price over the phone, just tell them how many pages, 12 or 25. Good Luck
