My computer had a few problems and in correcting those problems, I have lost about half of my bookmarks. I am trying to get a map of Alexandria - can anyone tell me the website that has maps? I bought one last time I was in Alex but have misplaced it. Thought I might be able to find one on the web. We're leaving Friday so not enough time to send for one. Thanks Floreda

Would like to touch base with anyone that might have information on a J.F. Tucker that married a M.J. Duck on 6 DEC 1896 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. I believe this may be Martha Jane Duck d/o of James Madison Duck and Martha Jane Carroll Duck Bass. Some of this Duck line buried in Butter Cemetery, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Thank you. REPLY TO: [email protected] ----------------------------------------- Hello, I am in need of help or suggestions on my grandmother and her parents. SURNAMES I Am researching the names of Apffel, Siebert, Reeb, Noesser, Quinn, Creel and Lorio of LA & MS area. --- MARY ANNA LORIO, my grandmother, was born in Louisiana, I know not which parish, on July 21, 1862. She married my grandfather, Albert Charles Creel, in Harrison County, Mississippi on July 19, 1879. They reared 9 children in Harrison County, Mississippi in the Handsboro area which is now Gulfport and lived there until Albert Charles Creel died. --- MARY ANNA LORIO died in New Orleans on April 24, 1929 and both she and her husband are buried in St. James Cemetery in Gulfport, MS --- When I started searching three years ago, all I had was birth and death dates which I obtained from the headstones in St. James Cemetery. I have obtained a copy of the marriage license but it did not give parish of Louisiana where she was from nor did it give any information as to her parents. --- The only information I have on her parents is from the death certificate of MARY ANNA LORIO and it states "Mother, ELLEN QUINN, from Ireland and father, ANTHONY LORIO from Italy. I have no idea when either of her parents came over, where in Ireland and Italy they came from, where they emigrated to, where they married, nor where they lived in Louisiana. --- On the census in Mississippi that I have found her on, it only lists her as being from Louisiana. --- If anyone has any information on QUINN/ LORIO's please get in touch with me. If anyone can offer any suggestions as to how I can find where in Louisiana she was born or some way to find out more about her parents please let me know. Thanks, Emma in Texas [email protected] [email protected] or [email protected]
Seeking information on Katherine Graham Sermons (b. circa 1842) and her husband G. H. Sermons. She is buried at the Graham Cemetery (Forest Hill, LA.) in an unmarked grave. Katherine Graham Sermons parents were Robert Graham (b. Aug. 20, 1818; d. Feb. 10, 1890) and Ruth Smith (b. Dec. 5, 1813; d. Jun. 2, 1869) of Forest Hill, Rapides Parish, LA. Perhaps an oversight... Jane Parker McManus is the niece of Mary Parker Partain. Jane took over, where Mary left off, when Mary's husband became invalid and took on her sworn vows (in sickness and in health) as a dutiful wife to nurse and nurture him in his time of need. Jane has since retired and was able to reevaluate and recensus some of Mary's work, of which Jane took a strong part and interest in, prior to returning to Louisiana. While I am sure Jane knows most everything that Mary knows, the eggs (accolades, in this case) belong on top of the heavier items in this shopping cart. My very special and personal "Thanks !" Go To Mary Parker Partain for her Devotion in her concerted effort to record every discernible tombstone inscription and temporary marker in every known cemetery in Rapides and Vernon Parishes and to "find the unknown information" by interviewing countless numbers of persons living in and near those cemeteries and the additional persons she was referred to by those living neighbors of our deceased forebearers. And also to Jane for assisting her Aunt Mary when no one else would on a regular basis. Even if it were from afar and on occassional vacation visits. And particularly for Jane graciously donating a portion of those efforts for others to view freely in the LAGenWeb Archive for Vernon and Rapides Parishes. Houston Tracy Jr.
Thanks, Houston. I am so happy to see the library web page. Now all I have to do is pull up the page to check on the library information. I visited my grandparents graves with my mother in the late 1930s and I do not believe there were headstones. I remember the graves were close to Main Street on a side dirt road (all that has change so much since then). Thanks for the information I will need for the courthouse lookup - gets complicated, doesn't it? I really appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Hello again Floreda, The Alexandria Historical & Genealogical Library now has a single webpage with contact links. The URL is http://www.rootsweb.com/~laclgs/library.htm There may be a plat of the cemetery filed in the Plat Book Index at the Rapides Parish Courthouse. Unfortunately, it will not likely show ownership or burial information. You may find where the association responsible for that cemetery may have sold plots to individuals and if they have changed their name in the Vendor's Conveyance Indexes and possibly in the Charter Index. Once you identify the current name of the organization, then you may be able to contact someone that has such a plot-identified map. Mary Parker Partain has pretty good descriptions as to how she read the markers in this cemetery, so if they have headstones or legible temporary funeral home markers, you may be able to use her book to guide you to the plots. Presently, I should be available to assist you while you are in Alexandria/Pineville in February. Just email me if you need me. Happiest of Results, Houston Tracy Jr.
I plan to visit Alexandria the week of the 19th of February. Can someone please refresh my memory as to the library hours. Also, I have "lost" my grandparent's graves. They are buried in Methodist Cemetery in Pineville. I have recently found who purchased the plots and am hoping to find information in the courthouse as to the exact location of the plots. Once I have found the legal location, where can I go to find a map of Methodist Cemetery on which I can locate them? Floreda
David, Thank you very much for your inquiry. I've been looking forward to meeting a modern-day person who knows the Bruyninckx family and would love to meet and exchange genealogy information. I have a lot of Vandersypen information but do not have exactly what you are asking for but would like to help you find it (I am not a professional and do not charge for any work). I'm very interested because your families came from the same part of the world as mine and they all immigrated to Rapides Parish (where I was also born). I'm working with several people still living in Belgium. I am following about 25 such families and would like to put them all together. Even on this brief outline, you can see how our families tended to marry within other Belgian-Flemish families. I'm coming to Alexandria for about a week in early March. I'd love to meet you. I can email GEDCOM files from my home and help you in Alexandria (if you need/want) up-load them. I want to connect the Belgian families to today's USA citicizens. I'm also looking to scan in your home any old photographs and would like representative modern-day families. You have misinterpreted the finding in Family TreeMaker... Solomon is not the name of the tribe, but only a member of the tribe of the remnants of the once great and numerous tribes of Apalache Indians, native to Florida, removed to near Mobile in the early to mid 1700's and in 1763 moved onto land at the rapide on Riviere Rouge granted them that year by the French Government at New Orleans. There were no surnames possessed by the early Indians, only given names. At a later date, descendents took any one of their ancestors given name as their surname, ex.: there may be someone named John Solomon and he took his name from an ancestor named simply, Solomon. In order to better assimilate himself into the White culture. For more info on the tribe try these URL's http://www.archaeology.org/online/news/apalachee.html http://alpha.nsula.edu/departments/folklife/cultures/apalachee.html

Carrie, I may not be able to help much, but my line includes references to the Apalache Indians. You may find out more about this tribe by accessing the Natchitoches forums. The Torres family and the DeRouens are of my line, and I believe had marriages with the Apalache Indians. I don't have that information in front of me. (Drawing from memory.) There is a family forum you can subscribe to that includes a great many of the pioneer families of Central Louisiana. It is called 'the Martins of Sabine Territory.' (It is a membership forum but open to whosoever will.) I believe you will find some information on the Apalaches from this group. (I host the forum.) Go go: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/martin-family There is also another new membership forum for the Edwards family. You can check it out at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JOSEPHEDWARDS The JosephEdwards forum is sponsored by Keith Edwards. I know he has some information on the tribe you are looking for. (These two forums are related. The Edwards, Martins, Miers, Torres, DeRouens familes are all early pioneers of this area.) Blessings.
