Kathy, My GGgrandparents were also located in Lafayette, Jefferson Parish in the 1850 census. They were married at the Lafayette Presbyterian or Fulton St. Church, listed as being in Jefferson Parish in 1848. I found this record at the FamilyHistory.com site. Have you tried checking there? Jan - Thanks so much for this info. Interestingly, Susan's brother, my g-g grandfather Jacob Born was married in the same church in 1854. I have Ancestry, and have also searched FamilySearch.org, but have still found nothing on a Lottman / Born marriage in 1841. I just looked up your suggestion "familyhistory.org" and it took me right back to Ancestry. When I found them in the 1850 Census, the spelling was so badly mangled that it is a wonder anyone ever found it - it was listed as "Sochman"! (I have just corrected it this morning on Ancestry's records!) Also, I would love to see a map of New Orleans that would show where Jefferson Parish is in relationship to Orleans Parish. Did Jefferson Parish merge with Orleans?
