LA cousins; I don't know how many of y'all have done any of the indexing work for the LDS FamilySearch site. I thought that you would like to know about the future of this work. It looks like they will be making the software available for society and group (NOLA?) projects as well. https://familysearch.org/blog/future-familysearch-indexing/ And since the current kvetch seems to be on Ancestry (and their sucking records up for sale) consider sending a GEDCOM to FamilySearch. They don't take photos and the like, like Ancestry, but your data and sources will be stored inside the granite mountain vault (better than a "cloud") and they will always be free for others to enjoy.
