    3. Patience is a virtue.  We learn that more and more while awaiting the census releases and then waiting for the subsequent indices.  As a LONGTIME genealogist, I can tell you, the indexing for the 1940 census is going MUCH quicker than any of the others have.  It took a very long time to index the 1930 census for online searching.  We're lucky, more people are indexing for 1940 and we have more overseers (checkers).  Heck, I remember when there were no indices, and we had to search each little strip on the microfiche and microfilm readers.  Blah. I index what they give me, usually north Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Illinois, and some others.. About Ancestry.com corrections, I've submitted probably hundreds.  While I can see my corrections and notations right away by clicking on the additions link, they aren't visible to everyone else for several weeks.  Ancestry usually sends me a "thank you" much later. I prefer the new way of doing it because if I make an error, usually a typo, I can correct it right away by deleting the post and adding a new one.  That way the typo doesn't go into the system as one of those infamous errors that people copy and reproduce millions of times.  Oy vey! Kathleen, in Connecticut, by way of New Orleans ----- Original Message ----- From: Joan Schaefer <joan_f_schaefer@sbcglobal.net> I have just been out to use the Tennessee Index to the 1940 US Census. I knew that I had eight corrections to make, and I just went to www.ancestry.com to make them. It was quite user friendly, and I see that they did not immediately go into effect. Do you know how Ancestry goes about installing the corrections? I had the last name misspelled four times, my father and brother with first names wrong, and my brothers born in the wrong state. Has anyone had experience with interacting with them on these things? Thanks, Joan
