Please note, although we now have more than 1.3 million vital records indexed online and will soon have the Orleans Births online, the Louisiana State Archives Vital Records Online Index is indeed not complete nor finalized. This is why we have not made a "Public Announcement" in this regard. Yet, Ms. Riffel's comments are not entirely true either. Please feel free to send me any comments or questions regarding the website as it is a "work in progress" at this point and we do not want misinformation going out regarding such and wish to assist you to the best of our abilities. What we hope to do in the future and are doing as of current is once we get the yearly shipment of public vital records which are the Orleans Marriages over 50 years old, Orleans/Statewide Deaths over 50 years old and Orleans Births over 100 years old such as the current Orleans Marriages 1957, we will individually put them into our database to create an index which will go live online, then microfilm the records for archival storage and access within the library.
