Herbert Asbury, like Robert Tallant (author of Voodoo in New Orleans), and several other "popular historians" of the 20th century, is one of the writers you REALLY have to watch out for. These people would collect a lot of newspaper articles and second-hand stories, cobble them together, and present them in highly readable style as the truth. In the case of Delphine Macarty Lalaurie, a fair amount of this actually IS turning out to be true. But one needs to always question, and always go into the archives for proof. --- Carolyn Long --- carolynlong@earthlink.net
