    1. [LAORLEAN] Armand Lanusse

    3. Armand Lanusse, the free man of color who was editor of the book of poetry Les Cenelles was, according to Desdunes, born in 1812, but there's no information about his parentage. You can bet, however, that he and the white Creole Paul Lanusse were related somehow. That would be a good research project for somebody. The Macartys of color have been keeping me busy--there were so many of them! Here's what I have on Celeste Macarty Lanusse: Benjamin Latrobe noted in his journal that Madame Lanusse, wife of the president of the Bank of Louisiana, had whipped a negress to death, and treated another so cruelly that she died a short time after. Mr. _____, a principal merchant of this place, stated the facts to the Grand Jury, but it was hushed up from respect to the ladys husband. This would have been Delphines cousin, Marie Celeste, daughter of Jean Baptiste Macarty, who was married to Paul Lanusse. Lanusse was appointed as a director of the Bank of Louisiana in 1804. The cruelty of Marie Celeste Macarty Lanusse is born out in one of the letters to Henri Ste. Gme from his plantation overseer, in which he wrote that Madame Widow Lanusse is accused of the same crime, and if [the mob] had been able to discover any property belonging to her, she would have had the same fate as Madame Lalaurie. > [Original Message] > From: Cat <ambicat@charter.net> > To: <laorlean@rootsweb.com> > Date: 04/08/2008 7:09:02 PM > Subject: [LAORLEAN] McCarty Plantation/Lanusse > > So, how is this Lanusse related to Armand?
