Hi Carol In what year were your ancestors at 134 Royal? Remember that street numbering in the French Quarter changed several times during the nineteenth century. There's a way to figure it out by using old maps--Norm Hellmers is the expert on this--but the further back one goes, the harder it gets. The numbers that are in use now originated in 1894. I THINK the first number in the nineteenth century city directories is the business, and the second is the home. Sometimes this is indicated by r. for residence or d. for domicile. Maybe your ancestor lived above his barber shop, which was customary until around the mid-twentieth century. > [Original Message] > From: Carol Hustus <maranath@embarqmail.com> > To: <laorlean@rootsweb.com> > Date: 04/07/2008 7:27:45 PM > Subject: Re: [LAORLEAN] LAORLEAN Digest, Vol 3, Issue 140 > > Thanks, Carolyn! > Whew!
