    1. [LAORLEAN] Royal St. address
    2. Carol Hustus
    3. Hi Carolyn and all, My ancestor was at 134 Royal Street in the 1890-1891 City Directory. Has anyone ever got around to listing their street addresses for more information? I received 2 photo copies from Sally K. Reeves, archivist at the Williams Research Center of the 100 & 400 block of Exchange Place taken early 20th century. In the 100 block photo I can identify Hotel Monteleone, Dixieland Jamboree, Gluck's Restaurant and an establishment that looks like it's a seafood place, Koranica's? (1950-60s?) I also received an 1896 Sanborn Insurance Map, I think from Norm Hellmers. It shows Royal St. from 100 Royal to 138 Royal. Well, now I've answered my own question about first and second listings on city directories! (Guess I had a senior moment and forgot to look up what I had.) One ancestor had a shop then on 134 Royal. Well? Hmm? From 134 to 138 the Insurance Map shows an open porch with stairs going up to a second floor behind the Bijou Variety Theatre. So maybe Eugene SULPICE did live upstairs and not have his barber shop there or by 1896 he was no longer in business at that location. Parallel to Royal is Exchange Place and interestingly enough is great great grandpa's Model Shop. Next to the I.O.O.F. Lodge. GGGrandpa and his son made models for architects. They also repaired things like opera glasses and nautical equipment. Colleen looked at a picture I sent her and she "tsk'd tsk'd" at the deplorable condition of their dirty shop since they also billed themselves as "opticians!" :) Colleen, I wonder if you noticed that there seems to be a rather large Photographer's Shop on the second floor between 627-635 CANAL ST. I'm not positive about this because I'm not good at reading this Insurance map. I'd like to know if there are more pictures and maps available for the times and places my family lived in New Orleans. Where would I get them since I live in Florida and limited funds don't allow me to hop over to NOLA right now. The earliest address I have is 35 Galvez ST. in 1864. Carol Florida
