I think it's a shame that some people have such a problem with this. My great-great grandmother was adopted. My grandfather and great aunt have both told me this. However, they refuse to tell me whether they know anything about her birth family, and it is next to impossible to find anything without a single clue! I don't see any issue with researching both lines. They're all family. I've even "adopted" the (totally unrelated) family that built the house I now live in. Good luck in your search!
