Carolyn, I don't have the answer for you, but the 1815 Tanesse map of New Orleans shows the hospital on Rue de l'Hôpital as the letter "L." In the lower corner of the map the hospital (letter "L") is pictured and identified as "Hopital de Charite const[ruit] en 1815."
