>> > Merle Ann asks ..... >> How did you obtain the address of the Genealogical Society in the >> area >> you were searching? > Where in France did Sr. Monica's father move to from Germany? According to SSND records Sister Monica was born in Selz (Alsace) France. Armed with that information I googled Selz and found out it is now called Seltz. Neither one of those spellings get too many hits. Somehow during those google searches I stumbled upon the AGAWE the people who do the lookups in that particular area. This is the very north eastern section of Alsace. I sent them what I knew on the family make-up,... names, dates, parents names & occupation, that the father was probably from Germany. We knew the family was likely from Germany even though US Citizenship documents state they were from France and their ship manifest stated they were from Strasbourg, France. In the US Census records family members disagree as to France or Germany. And each census varies. This may well likely have to do with border changes and the "political climate" at the time. I was able to dig up information on Theresa's uncle ..... a fellow who emigrated to England and became a citizen there. His denization records say he was from Kippenheim, Baden. In his will some relatives are listed in Mannheim, Lahr and Karlsruhe. So, I knew the general area they were from, but as I said, not exact ... and that's what you need to further your research over there. The AGAWE tells me Andre STULTZ was from Kuppenheim, Baden. Now I wonder the about the spelling as there are both Kippenheim and Kuppenheim in the same area. I think I will start with Kuppenheim as it is repeated several times in the reports from the AGAWE. You are all collectively a great group of helpers! The Stulz family has been at a dead end for decades. Still doing the happy dance. :) >
