    3. Gene His obit appeared in the newspaper "The Daily Picayune" on 10/19/1885 and reads: "Seely - In this city, at 10:45 P. M., Sunday, Oct. 18, 1885, JOHN SEELY, Sr., aged 56 years, 2 months and 14 days, a native of Alsheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, and for 32 years a resident of this city. The friends of the family and members of Louisiana Mechanics' Society, Louisiana Draymen's Association and Eagle Steam Fire Company No. 7, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will take place from his late residence, corner of Marais and Toulouse streets, at 4 o'clock, This (Monday) evening. THE WIDOW AND FOUR CHILDREN." I already checked with the Germans. The folks in Germany have told me this is not one of their uniforms. They identified the helmet has having a "peace eagle" on it, which is American. Could he have brought with a uniform if he was in military in Germany? Also, was he a member of the Masons or similar type group? I have a picture of my grandfather (much later than your picture) in a uniform that a Mason has identified to me as a uniform of the Knights of that organization. Also when were the Knights of Columbus of the Catholic church started? Could it be a Knights Templar uniform? 3.
