Does anyone know if the State Archives online index that lists marriages up till 1957 is complete? I checked for a number of Orleans marriages in my various family lines which I know ocurred in Orleans prior to 1957 (my grandparents for one and my great grandparents for another, plus others that took place before 1925)and which I have already obtained the marriage certificates from the state archives, and these marriages are not listed online. However, Ancestry.com lists many of these same marriages in their New Orleans Marriage data base and that information had to have come from the state archives. I'm hoping that the online index is still in the process of being updated. Does anyone know the status of this? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Dear Lynette: If you do an advanced search and type in various years, you'll find that there are some years where there are no records. Examples: 1904, 1915, 1918, 1921, and 1925. So, it would appear that the index is not yet fully input. Also, the following statement on their website is incorrect: "Searching for marriages that took place from 1831-1869 may produce results with dates and names of spouses taken from the official marriage index, but individual marriage records for this period do not exist in the archives. We regret that we cannot issue certified copies of marriage licenses for marriages that took place during this period." The few marriages that you will find in this index dating from 1831-1869 are, in fact, delayed recordings and they are indeed there. For example, there is one marriage dated 1831, but it wasn't recorded until 1870, which is when marriages started to be recorded in the same office with the births and deaths. I have tried many times to have them correct this statement, but to no avail.
